In this paper a general analysis of the evolution and current State of modem Catalan lexicography is undertaken, which starts with the setting up of a catalogue of lexicographic publications from 1940 onwards. In addition to the quantitative analysis of published dictionaries the paper introduces a typology study in order to sort out the variety and richness of modem Catalan lexicography. In the paper relevant data is presented on the situation of Catalan lexicography with respect to the quantity of existing dictionaries, and also on the factors that have determined their variety. El diccionari "Voces castellanas i su equivalència en valenciano. Voces valencianas i su equivalencia en castellano" (de l'any 1825 i d'autor desconegut, tot i que està signat amb les inicials C. M. G.) no havia merescut fins ara més atenció que aquella que es dedica a una obra manuscrita que gairebé tots els estudiosos de la lexicografia coneixen indirectament. Aquest diccionari s'emmotla en el panorama lexicogràfic valencià del segle XIX i és una de les poques obres d'aquest període i d'aquesta disciplina lingüística que fins ara romania inèdita. Coordinate compounding in English and Spanish

Coordinate compounding is a process which has been only sporadically considered in wordformation studies on Germanic and Romance languages. In this paper, we compare the situation in English with that in Spanish as far as formal structure and semantics are concerned. To this end, an operational definition of coordinate compounding is first provided, after which a semantic classification of coordinate compounds is developed. For each type, variants are discussed, representative examples are provided, and similarities and dissimilarities between the two languages are highlighted. Angļu-latviešu leksikogrāfiskā tradīcija aizsākas 1924. gadā, kad tiek publicēta pirmā angļu-latviešu vārdnīca, tradīcijas gaitā ir sastādītas apmēram divdesmit astoņas dažāda apjoma un strukturālas sarežģītības vārdnīcas. Šobrīd angļu-latviešu leksikogrāfijā valda stabila un labi iesakņojusies tradīcija, kas nosaka vārdnīcu mega-, makro- un mikrostrukturālo iezīmju kopumu. Does the Visual Attention Span Play a Role in Reading in Arabic?

It is unclear whether the association between the visual attention (VA) span and reading differs across languages. Here we studied this relationship in Arabic, where the use of specific reading strategies depends on the amount of diacritics on words: reading vowelized and nonvowelized Arabic scripts favor sublexical and lexical strategies, respectively. We hypothesized that the size of the VA span and its association to reading would differ depending on individual �script preferences.� We compared children who were more proficient in reading fully vowelized Arabic than nonvowelized Arabic (VOW) to children for whom the opposite was true (NOVOW).
