PAROLE MIGRANTI TRA ORIENTE E OCCIDENTE
2015
Leksikografičeskoe opisanie terminologii teolingvistiki (na primere russkogo i polʹskogo âzykov)
2018
The paper deals with the problems of lexicographic description of Russian and Polish theolinguistic terminology. We describe theolinguistics as one of the subdisciplines of linguistics, which main focus is on the reflection of religion in language. We present the most important achievements in the given field at the turn of the 20th and 21st cc., specify the relevant theoretical and applied aspects of contemporary theolinguistic studies. However, it is shown that there is a gap in the modern theolinguistic research – the lack of a comprehensive description of the terminology of Slavonic theolinguistics. An attempt has been made to give a lexicographical description of theolinguistic termino…
The image of the monolingual dictionary across Europe. Results of the European Survey of Dictionary use and Culture
2019
The article presents the results of a survey on dictionary use in Europe, focusing on general monolingual dictionaries. The survey is the broadest survey of dictionary use to date, covering close to 10,000 dictionary users (and non-users) in nearly thirty countries. Our survey covers varied user groups, going beyond the students and translators who have tended to dominate such studies thus far. The survey was delivered via an online survey platform, in language versions specific to each target country. It was completed by 9,562 respondents, over 300 respondents per country on average. The survey consisted of the general section, which was translated and presented to all participants, as wel…

Fascist Terminology in English Lexicography: Considerations from the Merriam-Webster Unabridged and the Oxford English Dictionary
2020
This paper analyses how English lexicography has received the fascist terminology derived from the Italian party ideology and put into practice by Mussolini during his leadership. The research has examined the online Oxford English Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online after taking into consideration the huge literature on Mussolini’s language and cultural policy. In addition, several lexicographical sources such as the Dizionario di politica (1940), the new Dizionario del fascismo (De Grazia and Luzzato 2002) and current Italian lexicographic data banks such as the TRECCANI and DIFIT online have been consulted to compare collected data. Findings have suggested interesting le…

Du bricolage en général et des dictionnaires de langue en particulier
2009
If language dictionaries appear as an invariable norm to the general public, they are in actual fact the result of a series of adjustments, of subjective decisions and of empirical or even ideological choices. Those very hesitations are of prime interest and turn dictionary science into an art rather than a science proper. Whether the task of lexicographers consists in determining the word list, in organizing its structure, in synthesizing the meaning of terms, or in selecting their registered uses, they necessarily need to make personal choices since the language they are trying to reconstruct is nothing but an artefact, the synthesis of a so-called “standard Language”. But there is no suc…

Lexicografia i variació funcional
1994
This paper reviews the basic concepts related to notions of variation and functional variation, in particular register, and it questions whether these concepts have been taken into account by the lexicographic tradition. The paper focuses on which are the most suitable marks to recognize several aspects connected with the usage of lexical items: on the one hand the field (topic), the mode (channel), the tenor (purpose), and the tone (formality), as the register’ s components; and on the other hand, various factors concerning cultural, enunciative, and textual grounds.
