THERP and HEART integrated methodology for human error assessment

2015

Abstract THERP and HEART integrated methodology is proposed to investigate accident scenarios that involve operator errors during high-dose-rate (HDR) treatments. The new approach has been modified on the basis of fuzzy set concept with the aim of prioritizing an exhaustive list of erroneous tasks that can lead to patient radiological overexposures. The results allow for the identification of human errors that are necessary to achieve a better understanding of health hazards in the radiotherapy treatment process, so that it can be properly monitored and appropriately managed.

2020

Since the beginning of the 20th century, electroencephalography (EEG) has been used in a wide variety of applications, both for medical needs and for the study of various cerebral processes. With the rapid development of the technique, more and more precise and advanced tools have emerged for research purposes. However, the main constraints of these devices have often been the high price and, for some devices the low transportability and the long set-up time. Nevertheless, a broad range of wireless EEG devices have emerged on the market without these constraints, but with a lower signal quality. The development of EEG recording on multiple participants simultaneously, and new technological …

CHILDREN’S DEPRESSION RATING SCALE-REVISED (CDRS-R) – DEVELOPMENT OF THE LATVIAN VERSION AND PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES IN A CLINICAL AND NON-CLINICAL S…

2019

Depression is one of the most widespread mental disorders worldwide. Adolescence is a vulnerable period for developing depression. It is associated with a number of challenges in biological, psychological and social areas. Valid and reliable measurement instruments are required for assessment of symptoms of depression in clinical samples of adolescents in Latvia. Children's Depression Rating Scale Revised (CDRS-R, Posnanski & Mokros, 1996) is a semi-structured, clinician-rated interview for assessment of depression in children and adolescents. While the CDRS-R is the most widely used rating scale for research and clinicians’ practical use worldwide, there's no validated version in Latvi…

Fifty Years of PMV Model: Reliability, Implementation and Design of Software for Its Calculation

2019

In most countries, PMV is the reference index for the assessment of thermal comfort conditions in mechanically conditioned environments. It is also the basis to settle input values of the operative temperature for heating and cooling load calculations, sizing of equipment, and energy calculations according to EN 16798-1 and 16798-2 Standards. Over the years, great effort has been spent to study the reliability of PMV, whereas few investigations were addressed to its calculation. To study this issue, the most significant apps devoted to its calculation have been compared with a reference software compliant with EN ISO 7730 and the well-known ASHRAE Thermal Comfort Tool. It has been revealed …

Assessment of the Reliability of the SPAC Method in Urban Areas

2015

We have carried out several long-term measures of seismic noise with triangular arrays of broad-band seismic sensors, to investigate the reliability of the SPAC method in urban areas. We investigate the stationary and anisotropy of the microtremor wave field. We have found that the anisotropy of the microtremor wave field can be evaluated analyzing the HVNSR as function the azimuth. Furthermore, we showed as strong anisotropies in the microtremors are often observable in particular at high frequencies (> 1 Hz). We have verified as microtremors can be difficult to considered as ergodic processes, and for this reason time averaging, also even over a long periods of time, cannot replace an app…

Touch Screen Rehabilitation System Prototype Based on Cognitive Exercise Therapy

2014

In recent years the number of rehabilitation patients all over the world is rapidly increasing as society ages and stroke and dementia spread. Continuous rehabilitation helps physical and mental maintenance and recovery. However, the recovery process involves hard and dull work which can result in the patient abandoning the treatment. This problem requires a solution both effective and agreeable. Nowadays, cognitive exercise therapies are widely used to combine mental and physical function recovery. We introduce touch panel ad-hoc developed games into this therapy, motivating the user to actively participate in the rehabilitation and making the whole process reliable and days touch screens …

Quantum mechanical settings inspired by RLC circuits

2018

In some recent papers several authors used electronic circuits to construct loss and gain systems. This is particularly interesting in the context of PT-quantum mechanics, where this kind of effects appears quite naturally. The electronic circuits used so far are simple, but not so much. Surprisingly enough, a rather trivial RLC circuit can be analyzed with the same perspective and it produces a variety of unexpected results, both from a mathematical and on a physical side. In this paper we show that this circuit produces two biorthogonal bases associated to the Liouville matrix $\Lc$ used in the treatment of its dynamics, with a biorthogonality which is linked to the value of the parameter…

Revista electrónica de investigación y evaluación educativa

2016

Reliability and Retention Study of Nanocrystal Cell Array

2002

We have studied nanocrystal memory arrays with 2.56 × 105 cells (256kb) in which Si nanocrystals have been obtained by CVD deposition on a 4nm tunnel oxide. The cells in the array are programmed and erased by electron tunneling through the SiO2 dielectric. We find that the threshold voltage distribution has little spread. In addition the arrays are also very robust with respect to drain stress and show good retention.

Model of ageing inception and growth from microvoids in polyethylene-based materials under AC voltage

2008

Several degradation mechanisms may affect polymeric insulation system reliability. Some authors postulate that, even in a perfect dielectric, nanoscale cavities can enlarge due to various mechanisms (from mechanical fatigue to lowering of the degradation reaction energy barrier) up to a point where highly energetic phenomena, which bring about breakdown, can be incepted. Other authors are more focused on the inherent limits of manufacturing processes, which leave cavities within the insulation system whose size is large enough to cause electron avalanches, thus a measurable partial discharge (PD) activity, from the time the system is put in service or as a function of external factors (e.g.…
