2022

In alternating phases and with long pauses, to counter banditry and the mafia - both in liberal and fascist Italy up to the republican one - special police and judiciary bodies were set up by political choice, which, legitimized by the state of emergency and from the logic of the enemy's criminal law, they acted with borderline investigative methods, such as the technique of infiltration and negotiation.

2018

The paper proposes a reflection on the meaning of the construct "organizational well- being", starting from the definitions given by the psychologists of work, indicating the need to contextualize its framing within broader horizons of meaning that make it more widely intelligible social, political and economic determinations, avoiding the reduction and banalization of the phenomenology of subjective experiences of discomfort and malaise in the workplace. The text proposes two frames of reference for this contextualization that concern the role of the economy in its relationship with society (and politics), and their effects on the structure of subjectivity as it has unfolded in recent deca…

The social humanism by Tadeusz Zieliński (1859–1944)

2020

The aim of the article is to present the idea of social humanism by Tadeusz Zieliński, an outstanding classical philologist, thinker, creator of the phenomenon called Slavic Renaissance, being a professor at St. Petersburg University (until 1920) and Warsaw University, a doctor h. c. at many high schools in the country as well as abroad. He treated his humanism in different aspects, not just as a category strictly referring to the epoch of Renaissance, but also having alternated through history, in order to search a harmony between the one human being and the society. The proposals and projects that he declared within this context, placed him around the great defenders of the republican ant…

Moral Neuroeducation, Ethics of Justice and Pluralism

2019

In order to design a model of moral neuroeducation for pluralistic and democratic societies three core issues need to be addressed in-depth: firstly, the cerebral basis of moral behaviour (neuroethics); secondly, how neuroscientific knowledge can be engaged in the teaching of moral education (moral neuroeducation); and finally, the specific ethical model underpinning this area of education (moral and political philosophy). The last of these three issues is the focus of this chapter, as it is fundamental to the whole project of moral neuroeducation, and it structures the approach to moral neuroeducation proposed in this chapter. Drawing on the conceptual framework of Adela Cortina’s ethics o…

The British Press Responds to the Liberation of the Concentration Camps

2011

Following the liberation of Western concentration camps, especially Buchenwald (11 April) and Bergen-Belsen (15 April), newspapers in Europe reported a story of cruelty that seemed to surpass every other atrocity story they had told before. This chapter will examine how the liberation news was published in the mainstream British papers. It is now well known that the liberation of the camps hardly helped the British public to comprehend the true nature of the Nazi genocide.1 However, what concerns us here is to go beyond the argument according to which the dominant liberal discourse in Britain was principally responsible for influencing British understanding of the Holocaust. Instead, this c…

Augustin Cochin e il Correspondant. Scritti sulla "Questione italiana " (1860-1862)

2012
