This contribution is based on an ongoing experience in Palermo: a participatory process (ProMondello) aimed at producing a master plan. The specificity of ProMondello stems from the fact that the promoters of the process are neither social communities nor local administrations, which so far have only arranged highly questionable and easily exploitable processes. Tässä tutkimuksessa kuvataan taloudellisen diskurssin muutosta Suomen eduskunnassa keynesiläisyydestä monetarismiin sekä tähän muutokseen yhdistettävästä pääomamarkkinoiden vapauttamisesta käytyä eduskuntadiskurssia. Selvitän, miten ja miten paljon Suomen verotus on muuttunut tutkimuksen aikavälillä oikeudenmukaisuuden ja tehokkuuden näkökulmista. Lisäksi tarkastelen sitä, johtaako tehokkuuden ja oikeudenmukaisuuden samanaikainen tavoittelu väistämättä ristiriitaan. The paper seeks to interpret the European crisis following the critical-pragmatic approach that has been developed by the French sociologist Luc Boltanski. In this respect, the essay aims to achieve two main objectives. The first one is to show how the current crisis can be described not only focusing on its systemic, structural nature, but also taking into account the critical claims of social actors. This chapter ties together discussions of citizenship and social work practice in the context of growing populist and neoliberal political trends in Finland. These political trends are manifested in populist right-wing nationalist movements on the one hand, and in the neoliberal dismantling of the welfare state on the other. Both political trends – right-wing nationalist populism and neoliberalism – tend to separate people into two groups: those who are ‘deserving’ and those who are ‘undeserving’. Conforming to and resisting imposed identities : An autoethnography on academic motherhood

Purpose This research attempts to make sense of the experiences of two academic women who become mothers. Design/methodology/approach This paper is an autoethnography. Applying the autoethnographic method allows us to discuss cultural phenomena through personal reflections and experiences. Our autoethnographic reflections illustrate our struggles and attempts of resistance within discursive spaces where motherhood and our identity as academics intersect. Findings Our personal experiences combined with theoretical elaborations illuminate how the role of the mother continues to be dominated by such gendered discursive practices that conflict with the work role.
