Reputation or peer review? The role of outliers

We present an agent-based model of paper publication and consumption that allows to study the effect of two different evaluation mechanisms, peer review and reputation, on the quality of the manuscripts accessed by a scientific community. The model was empirically calibrated on two data sets, mono- and multi-disciplinary. Our results point out that disciplinary settings differ in the rapidity with which they deal with extreme events—papers that have an extremely high quality, that we call outliers. Sixth graders’ evaluation strategies when reading Internet search results : an eye-tracking study

Eye-tracking technology was used to examine Internet search result evaluation strategies adopted by sixth-grade students (N = 36) during ten experimental information search tasks. The relevancy of the search result’s title, URL, and snippet components was manipulated and selection of search results as well as looking into probabilities on the search result components was analysed. The results revealed that during first-pass inspection, students read the search engine page by first looking at the title of a search result. Research Directions Profile in the Computing Museum of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia (IMCS)

The article describes the development of information technology in Latvia, in IMCS, to the middle of the 1990s. The history of IMCS represents the usage of computers in typical computing centers in the former Soviet Union and the transformation from computing center to research institution. It also represents Latvian collaboration with the Nordic countries that provided political, scientific, and technological support. Historical documents, computer parts, and photos are collected in the Computer Museum of IMCS.

Enhancing the Readership of Teacher Students With Digital Book Subscription Services

This article aims to illustrate a 7-month trial of digital book subscription services in teacher education. Student teachers of the University of Turku in Finland were encouraged to implement the service as part of their free time reading. Optical read-out of the N\'eel vector in metallic antiferromagnet Mn$_{2}$Au

Metallic antiferromagnets with broken inversion symmetry on the two sublattices, strong spin-orbit coupling and high N\'{e}el temperatures offer new opportunities for applications in spintronics. Especially Mn$_{2}$Au, with high N\'{e}el temperature and conductivity, is particularly interesting for real-world applications. Clinical Appropriateness of Coronary Angiography

Background: The study evaluates the appropriateness of coronary angiography and the agreement between the used method and the presence of coronary artery disease by the indications proposed from American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (1999). Method: The guidelines allow us to associate to Class I and IIa the judgment of appropriateness, to the Class IIb of uncertainty; to Class III of inappropriateness. Result: On 761 coronary angiography 76.74% were appropriate, 23.13% unsuitable, 0.13% uncertain. This issue 5 is devoted to spine diseases that can be treated or improved by using medical ozone. Dr. Alberto Alexandre compiled during 2015 and 2016 a number of papers from experienced authors in order to prepare a monographic issue but found a lot of difficulty in publishing it. I offered him our Journal to publish these scientific works and he agreed. 
 
 COVID-19 pandemic has produce a huge increase in publishing time for all journals but we finally have been able to produce this issue. Due to the delay in its publication, some papers have been published by their authors in other journals.
