Risk of lymph node metastasis in submucosal esophageal cancer: a review of surgically resected patients
2011
Endoscopic local procedures are increasingly applied in patients with superficial esophageal cancer as an alternative to radical oncologic resection. The objective of this article is to determine the risk of nodal metastases in submucosal (sm) esophageal cancer, comparing the two predominating histologic tumor types, squamous cell cancer (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC).A query of PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Library (1980-2009) using predetermined search terms revealed 675 abstracts, of which 485 full-text articles were reviewed. A total of 105 articles met the selection criteria. A review of article references and consultation with experts revealed additional articles for inclusion.…
Biomarkers to predict the onset of biphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: A systematic review
2019
Background: The goal of this paper was to identify available biomarkers to predict the onset of biphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (BRONJ). Material and Methods: Case-control studies comparing the different concentrations of a series of molecules detected in serum and urine as matrices of BRONJ affected patients vs. non-affected were included. PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews were used for the present paper. Two reviewers independently screened electronic databases (Medline, Web of science, and The Cochrane Library) and performed hand searches. Risk of bias assessment of selected studies was performed by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. This study is registered as PROSPERO CR…
Osteonecrosis of the jaws produced by sunitinib : a systematic review
2019
Background Tyrosine kinase receptor family is involved in tumor growth, pathological angiogenesis and the progression (metastasis) of cancer. Sunitinib (Sutent®) inhibits members of the tyrosine kinase receptor family affecting the induction of angiogenesis and tumor progression. It is not clear if sunitinib increases the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaws (ONJ). The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review about ONJ related to sunitinib, describing existing cases and possible associated risk factors. Material and Methods The PubMed/MEDLINE and Cochrane Library databases were searched without date restriction up to September 2018. We included prospective and retrospective obser…
Just in case, just in time, or just don't bother? Assessment of one-shot library instruction with follow-up workshops
2015

Available from the publisher at: http://liber.library.uu.nl/index.php/lq/article/view/URN%3ANBN%3ANL%3AUI%3A10-1-116866 This article examines if the timing of library instruction courses is an important part of how students experience library instruction as a means of developing information literacy skills. Two student groups, belonging to different academic subjects, have received the same training and the same assessment questionnaire afterwards. One of the groups was in the middle of writing their student thesis as a part of their final year of their bachelor degree work, the other group consisted of different subjects within the human…

When Methodology Interferes With Substance
2005
For campaigners, and also attendant researchers, the advent of the Internet has challenged established ways of doing their respective campaign business. Practitioners, used to running local and media campaigns, can nowadays also resort to elements of web campaigning, while electoral researchers, used to running election studies based on personal or telephone interviews, can now employ online surveys to do their business. However, e-campaigning and online polling suffer from severe deficiencies. Based on online and offline surveys conducted in the run-up to the 2002 German election, we show two things. First, online surveys yield biased results; second, e-campaigning reaches only a tiny fra…
Synchronicity matters: defining the characteristics of digital generations
2015
This paper investigates whether or not the proposition that the second digital generation (or so-called digital natives) is more engaged in social use of the Internet than older generations is tenable. By analysing nationally representative questionnaire-based survey data collected from Finland in 2011 (N = 612), the study shows that rather than social use of the Internet in general, it is the synchronicity of online communication that distinguishes user generations. Results show that, in contrast to asynchronous modes of online communication (e.g. social networking sites, blogs and online discussion forums), synchronous modes (e.g. instant messaging and Internet calls) are clearly generati…
Author Rights vs Self-Archiving in Spanish Scientific Journals
2013
AbstractThe paper analyzes publishers’ copyright policies and self-archiving conditions of Spanish scientific journals. Data are extracted from the directory DULCINEA that contains information of 1318 Spanish journals, of which 775 (61%) allow some form of self-archiving to be about 60% of the post-print version and allowing them 87% of the deposit of the version of record. In 72% of journals the deposit can be performed immediately after publication and in 16% after article acceptance. 72% of the journals are freely available without charge to the user this figure raises up to 86% if free access after an embargo is considered. Only 18% of the journals use Creative Commons licenses. The ado…
Datos abiertos de investigación. Camino recorrido y cuestiones pendientes
2017
Timeliness of Open Data in Open Government Data Portals Through Pandemic-related Data: a long data way from the publisher to the user
2020
The paper addresses the “timeliness” of data in open government data (OGD) portals. It is one of the primary principles of open data, which is considered to be a success factor, while at the same time it is one 0f the biggest barriers that can disrupt users trust in data and even the desire to use the entire open data portal. However, assessing this aspect is a very difficult task that, in most cases, becomes an impossible for open data users. There is therefore a lack of comparative studies on the timeliness of data of different national open data portals. Unfortunately, 2020 gave the opportunity to find out this. It became easy enough to compare how long is the data path from the data hol…
