Research on Spectroscopy in Morocco from 1984 to 2006
2007
Abstract The evolution of spectroscopy‐based research activity in Morocco was evaluated on the basis of publications that have appeared in the Science Citation Index, Expanded (SCI), during the cumulative period 1984–2006 (September). The most active research groups, and their universities or centers, were identified in this subject from their scientific production in the first years of this century. The preference to publish in specific journals, the main areas of interest to Moroccan authors, and the spectroscopy techniques most commonly employed for their studies were also appraised. This scientometric study was undertaken to introduce a group of papers in a special issue of Spectroscopy…
The ALHAMBRA survey: tight dependence of the optical mass-to-light ratio on galaxy colour up to z = 1.5
2018
[Aims] Our goal is to characterise the dependence of the optical mass-to-light ratio on galaxy colour up to z = 1.5, expanding the redshift range explored in previous work. [Methods] From the redshifts, stellar masses, and rest-frame luminosities of the ALHAMBRA multi-filter survey, we derive the mass-to-light ratio versus colour relation for quiescent and for star-forming galaxies. The intrinsic relation and its physical dispersion are derived with a Bayesian inference model. [Results] The rest-frame i-band mass-to-light ratio of quiescent and star-forming galaxies presents a tight correlation with the rest-frame (g - i) colour up to z = 1.5. The mass-to-light ratio versus colour relation …

A Study of the Bibliometry and Areas of the Research Groups of Archivos de Bronconeumología (2003–2007)
2010
Introduction Scientific cooperation is essential for the advance of biomedical research. Scientists set up informal groups to work together on common issues, who are the main units in the research funding system. Bibliometric and Social Network Analysis methods allow informal groups in scientific papers to be identified and characterised. The objective of the study is to identify research groups in Archivos de Bronconeumologia between 2003 and 2007 period with the aim of characterizing their scientific collaboration patterns and research areas.
Three-Dimensional Superconducting Nanohelices Grown by He+-Focused-Ion-Beam Direct Writing
2019
Novel schemes based on the design of complex three-dimensional (3D) nanoscale architectures are required for the development of the next generation of advanced electronic components. He+ focused-ion-beam (FIB) microscopy in combination with a precursor gas allows one to fabricate 3D nanostructures with an extreme resolution and a considerably higher aspect ratio than FIB-based methods, such as Ga+ FIB-induced deposition, or other additive manufacturing technologies. In this work, we report the fabrication of 3D tungsten carbide nanohelices with on-demand geometries via controlling key deposition parameters. Our results show the smallest and highest-densely packed nanohelix ever fabricated s…
World-wide collaboration among medical specialties in smoking research: production, collaboration, visibility and influence
2009
The aim of this study was to analyse the network of scientific collaboration generated by the co-authorship of articles on smoking among different specialties on a world-wide level through the Science Citation Index (SCI) in the period 1999–2003. Material and methods: We selected collaboration articles on smoking research among different specialties listed in the SCI (1999–2003). The underlying network of collaboration among specialties was analysed, comparing production, visibility and centrality. Results: Forty-nine different specialties were identified, of which 47 (96%) had produced articles in collaboration (461 articles). The most productive specialty was Psychiatry–Psychology. The sp…
Kildekompasset - å navigere seg frem til riktig referansestil
2012
One of the main tasks of an academic library is to guide students in critical evaluation and the ethical use of sources so that they can interpret, evaluate and create information in a correct and proper way. This should be integrated into the subjects, which is a huge challenge. Many students are told that they can freely select the reference style as long as they are consistent. But it is difficult to be consistent when you barely know what a reference style is. It is not easy for the librarian to answer how one refers to a governmental white paper in a self-designed reference system. To do this in a simple way, it is desirable to share the task between academic tutors and the library. T…
E-book Readers in Higher Education: Student Reading Preferences and Other Data from Surveys at the University of Agder
2013
Published version of an article from the journal Sage Open: http://sgo.sagepub.com/. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/2158244013486493 Open Access This paper reports on a research project at the University of Agder that has studied the use of e-readers as a tool for academic study. E-readers (Kindle DX and iPad) were loaded with texts from required reading lists in five courses with 94 participating students. Initially 87 students responded to the invitation to participate in a survey, but eventually 13 of these submissions had to be removed, as the degree of completion was not sufficient. The final response rate achieved was 79%. Students were in general positiv…
