La première rencontre du corps malade en contexte de soins infirmiers : la relation de soin : une expérience ultime, du sensible au social

2016

Our study focuses on nursing care with a first approach based on human body and emotions through the teaching context in the sensitive hospital environment. The nursing student is a central point of our research as he lives a unique sensitive and interpersonal experience within his own body in a social setting imbued with symbolism. He perceives health care community through his five senses which inform and direct him, but also may destabilize him. We decided to base our study on the information and communication sciences thanks to a sensitive, sensorial and symbolic problematisation and through a multidisciplinary conceptualization based on different theoretical approaches, symbolic intera…

MakingCarexmonophyletic (Cyperaceae, tribe Cariceae): a new broader circumscription

2015

We are grateful to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for funding of the Biodiversity Synthesis Group of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) project, which funded our BioSynC Synthesis meeting at the Field Museum in Chicago in September 2011, when the Global Carex Group was formed. We also thank the US National Science Foundation (NSF) for funding our continuing international collaborative work on the phylogeny and classification of Carex under grants DEB 1255901 to ALH and MJW, and DEB 1256033 to EHR. We also acknowledge with thanks funding for nomenclatural research and for attendance at our second meeting during the Monocots V conference in New York in July, 2013, from the Natu…

On the Trustworthiness of Error-Correcting Codes

2007

The use of error-correcting codes protects data against accidental or intentional errors, but to what extent can a decoded message be trusted? To answer this question, one has to take the role of the receiver. First, the maximum number of errors Lambda acceptable for decoding is fixed. With the weight distribution, the probability of false decoding can be calculated, conditioned on such a Lambda-bounded strategy. This probability is a monotonously increasing function in the channel error probability p and in the maximum number of accepted errors Lambda. Therefore, pure error detection is more trustworthy than error correction. Moreover, for sufficiently small p, codes with the lexicographic…

Leader of my Heart!

2015

The first decade of the twenty-first century has witnessed the emergence of ‘new’ media technologies which have contributed to reshaping the relationships between politicians, journalists and the general public in Western democracies and around the world (Fox and Ramos, 2012; Lilleker and Jackson, 2013). After diverse early attempts in several countries to harness these new tools during election periods, their use by Barack Obama’s campaign team in the 2008 US presidential elections is often cited as one of the first examples in which they appeared to contribute positively to mobilising sympathisers and party activists around the campaign (Thimm, 2011). In the subsequent 2010 UK general ele…

Adsorbed CO on group 10 metal fragments: A DFT study

2009

DFT calculations on the helicopter and cartwheel rotations of one CO molecule adsorbed at the bridge site on metal-surface fragments, characterized by two (M(8)) or three (M(14)) metal-atom layers (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) were performed by the B3LYP[LANL2DZ+6-31 g(d,p)] method, to rationalize the adsorption energetics and the steric hindrance characteristics of surface CO molecules. Potential Energy Surfaces were obtained, either fixing the C-O bond-length or allowing it to change. The behavior of the three metals, as obtained from the study of the configurational space characterizing the CO adsorption on the fragments was explained on the basis of the interaction energies involved in the different…

Challenges in Information Systems Procurement in the Norwegian Public Sector

2011

Published version of a chapter in the book Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 6846, 404-417. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-22878-0_34 Public procurement of information systems (IS) and IS services provides several challenges to the stakeholders involved in the procurement processes. This paper reports initial results from a Delphi study, which involved 46 experienced procurement managers, chief information officers, and vendor representatives in the Norwegian public sector. The participants identified altogether 98 challenges related to IS procurement, divided further into 13 categories: requirements specification, change management, cooperation a…

Molecular biology, China and the West

2000

More than 15 years ago, in November 1985, I travelled to China for the first time. I joined a symposium on developmental biology in the Shanghai Institute of Cell Biology (CBI), organised by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Max‐Planck‐Gesellschaft in Germany. The symposium was meant to provide perspectives for the future of the Max Planck Guest Laboratory, just founded in the CBI. When I attended, I did not anticipate that my visit to Shanghai would initiate a long‐term commitment to China. I did not even expect to return to China in the near future. But early in 1987, my colleague Uli Schwarz from the Max Planck Institute of Developmental Biology in Tubingen, who was and still is in…

Efficacy of plasma rich in growth factor used for dry socket management : a systematic review

2019

Background The main aim of this systematic review was to assess the dry socket management using plasma rich in growth factor (PRGF) in terms of pain relief, alveolar fossa healing, inflammation, the incidence of dry socket. Material and Methods PubMed, Cochrane Library, Elsevier Science Direct, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and VIP database were searched for the related articles without language limitation. Two reviewers independently searched and evaluated relevant studies. This review has been registered in the website PROSPERO (CRD42018087252). Results 28 articles were retrieved on PubMed and 98 on other electronic databases in the initial s…

Artichoke and Cynar liqueur: two (not quite) entangled proteomes.

2012

Combinatorial peptide ligand libraries (CPLLs) have been adopted to investigate the proteome of artichoke extracts, of a home-made alcoholic infusion and of the Italian Cynar liqueur. The aim of study was not only to perform the deepest investigation so far of the artichoke proteome but also to assess the genuineness of the commercial aperitif via a three-pronged attack. First, different extraction techniques have been used for the characterization of the artichoke's proteome, secondly a home-made infusion has been analyzed and finally the proteome of the commercial drink was checked. The artichoke proteome has been evaluated via prior capture with CPLLs at four different pH (2.2, 4.0, 7.2 …
