After the studying the original material of Orobanche centaurina Bertol. (Orobanchaceae) deposited in BOLO, a forgotten species described from Massa (Central Italy) parasitizing Centaurea paniculata L., and compared it with the type of O. kochii F.W. Schultz and with the types of others taxa actually considered synonyms of this, we concluded that the name of Bertoloni is the correct one for this species. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was applied using a pulsed unipolar waveform to produce Al2O3-TiO2 composite coatings from sol electrolytic solutions containing colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles. The sol solutions were produced by dissolving 1, 3, and 5 g/L of potassium titanyl oxalate (PTO) in a silicate solution. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy were applied to characterizing the coatings. In this research, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings were prepared on 7075 Al alloy in a silicate-based solution with Na2MoO4 additive using a unipolar waveform at constant current density. The coatings displayed micro-pores, micro-cracks, pancake-like and crater-like features, and also solidified molten oxide particles on the surface. The coatings were majorly composed of Al2O3 (γ, δ, and α), SiO2 (amorphous), and MoO3 phases, which confirms the incorporation of molybdenum in the case of additive-containing coatings. An experiment was conducted in an organic plum orchard in Sicily to evaluate the damage caused by the plum moth Grapholita funebrana (Treitschke) to three plum cultivars (Angeleno, Friar, and Stanley) and to evaluate plum moth control provided by mineral oil applied every 20 days (Moil), spinosad applied every 10 days (S10), or spinosad and mineral oil applied alternately (S/Moil). Treatment application began when eggs were first observed on fruits. S10 and S/Moil effectively reduced plum moth damage on all cultivars but Moil did not. Plum moth infestation was significantly lower on Stanley than on Friar and Angeleno.

Purpose: Aim of this study was to analyze pediatric invasive pneumococcal disease rates several years after the implementation of infant pneumococcal vaccination. Methods: The study was carried out in Sicily and involved about 30,000 children, aged 1-59 months, actively monitored by 100 family pediatricians during 2010 and 2011. All children who met the inclusion criteria were considered eligible, recorded using a stan-dardized case report form and investigated for the presence of S. pneumoniae in speci-mens from sterile sites.
