Efficient anomaly detection on sampled data streams with contaminated phase I data

2020

International audience; Control chart algorithms aim to monitor a process over time. This process consists of two phases. Phase I, also called the learning phase, estimates the normal process parameters, then in Phase II, anomalies are detected. However, the learning phase itself can contain contaminated data such as outliers. If left undetected, they can jeopardize the accuracy of the whole chart by affecting the computed parameters, which leads to faulty classifications and defective data analysis results. This problem becomes more severe when the analysis is done on a sample of the data rather than the whole data. To avoid such a situation, Phase I quality must be guaranteed. The purpose…

Why is this an anomaly? Explaining anomalies using sequential explanations

2022

Abstract In most applications, anomaly detection operates in an unsupervised mode by looking for outliers hoping that they are anomalies. Unfortunately, most anomaly detectors do not come with explanations about which features make a detected outlier point anomalous. Therefore, it requires human analysts to manually browse through each detected outlier point’s feature space to obtain the subset of features that will help them determine whether they are genuinely anomalous or not. This paper introduces sequential explanation (SE) methods that sequentially explain to the analyst which features make the detected outlier anomalous. We present two methods for computing SEs called the outlier and…

Reputation or peer review? The role of outliers

2018

We present an agent-based model of paper publication and consumption that allows to study the effect of two different evaluation mechanisms, peer review and reputation, on the quality of the manuscripts accessed by a scientific community. The model was empirically calibrated on two data sets, mono- and multi-disciplinary. Our results point out that disciplinary settings differ in the rapidity with which they deal with extreme events—papers that have an extremely high quality, that we call outliers. In the mono-disciplinary case, reputation is better than traditional peer review to optimize the quality of papers read by researchers. In the multi-disciplinary case, if the quality landscape is…

Constraint qualifications and Lagrange multipliers in nondifferentiable programming problems

1994

In this paper, we present several constraint qualifications, and we show that these conditions guarantee the nonvacuity and the boundedness of the Lagrange multiplier sets for general nondifferentiable programming problems. The relationships with various constraint qualifications are investigated.

Household Leverage and Fiscal Multipliers

2011

We study the size of fiscal multipliers in response to a government spending shock under different household leverage conditions in a general equilibrium setting with search and matching frictions. We allow for different levels of household indebtedness by changing the intensive margin of borrowing (loan-to-value ratio), as well as the extensive margin, defined as the number of borrowers over total population. The interaction between the consumption decisions of agents with limited access to credit and the process of wage bargaining and vacancy posting delivers two main results: (a) higher initial leverage makes it more likely to find output multipliers higher than one; and (b) a positive g…

Object and subject of evasion of taxes and other compulsory payments

2014

The paper is devoted to such topical issue of Criminal Law as Object and Subject of Evasion of Taxes and Other Compulsory Payments. There are analyzed researched crime determination problems, which are connected with subject and object of tax and other compulsory payments evasion. In the course of the research, the author has made the conclusions that the object of the evasion of taxes and other compulsory payments group is the national economic interests. The direct object is the national economic interests in the sphere of state revenues or the national fiscal interests. While analyzing the law and regulations it is concluded that the subject of the evasion of taxes and other compulsory p…

Contribution to variational analysis : stability of tangent and normal cones and convexity of Chebyshev sets

2014

The aim of this thesis is to study the following three problems: 1) We are concerned with the behavior of normal cones and subdifferentials with respect to two types of convergence of sets and functions: Mosco and Attouch-Wets convergences. Our analysis is devoted to proximal, Fréchet, and Mordukhovich limiting normal cones and subdifferentials. The results obtained can be seen as extensions of Attouch theorem to the context of non-convex functions on locally uniformly convex Banach space. 2) For a given bornology β on a Banach space X we are interested in the validity of the following "lim inf" formula (…).Here Tβ(C; x) and Tc(C; x) denote the β-tangent cone and the Clarke tangent cone to …

An Adaptive Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers

2021

AbstractThe alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is a powerful splitting algorithm for linearly constrained convex optimization problems. In view of its popularity and applicability, a growing attention is drawn toward the ADMM in nonconvex settings. Recent studies of minimization problems for nonconvex functions include various combinations of assumptions on the objective function including, in particular, a Lipschitz gradient assumption. We consider the case where the objective is the sum of a strongly convex function and a weakly convex function. To this end, we present and study an adaptive version of the ADMM which incorporates generalized notions of convexity and penalty…

Committenze ospitaliere d'arte decorativa siciliana. Coralli barocchi e argenti rococò

2016

Il contributo analizza manufatti d'arte decorativa siciliana, in particolare coralli barocchi e argenti rococò, commissionati da Cavalieri dell'Ordine di Malta che oggi si trovano in importanti collezioni melitensi. The essay deals with Sicilian decorative artefacts, in particular baroque corals and rococo silverware, commissioned by Knights of the Order of Malta, which are now found in important collections in Malta.
