Interstitial deletions of the long arm of chromosome 12 are rare, with a dozen patients carrying a deletion in 12q21 being reported. Recently a critical region (CR) has been delimited and could be responsible for the more commonly described clinical features, such as developmental delay/intellectual disability, congenital genitourinary and brain malformations. Other, less frequent, clinical signs do not seem to be correlated to the proposed CR. Background This study examined the effects of addition of 10% and 25% by weight calcium hydroxide on the physicochemical properties of Portland cement associated with 20% bismuth oxide in order to develop a new pulp capping material. Material and Methods The solubility, pH value, setting time, compressive strength, and push out bond strength of modified Portland were evaluated and compared to those of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Portland cement containing 20% bismuth oxide. Optical quality of intraocular lenses after several years in the human eye

The optical quality of explanted intraocular lenses (IOLs) was analysed to verify if their quality is maintained after having been in the human eye for several years. Twenty-five explanted IOLs were studied, 10 because of intraocular luxation and 15 from corneal donors. The dioptric power and modulation transfer function (MTF) were determined to discover the image quality of the IOLs. The spectral transmission was also established to ascertain whether the filter against ultraviolet (UV) radiation was still effective. This article reports on the study of the interplay between magnetic coupling and spin transition in 2,2′-bipyrimidine (bpym)-bridged iron(II) dinuclear compounds. Coexistence of both phenomena has been observed in [Fe(bpym)(NCS)2]2bpym, [Fe(bpym)(NCSe)2]2bpym and [Fe(bt)(NCS)2]2bpym (bpym = 2,2′-bipyrimidine, bt = 2,2′-bithiazoline) by the action of external physical factors namely pressure or electromagnetic radiation. Relative Frequencies and Significance of Faecal Coliforms as Indicators Related to Water Temperature

Summary The faecal coliforms at different sites of a hypereutrophic lake near Valencia (Albufera) were identified and their relative amounts established along an annual cycle. Using lauryl tryptose broth at 35°C, followed by incubation at 44.4°C in 2% brilliant green bile, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae are practically the only coliforms present. A positive correlation was found between the water temperature and the relative amount of these two coliforms: K. pneumoniae predominates at high water temperatures, whereas E. coli shows preponderance during the cold period.
