Sleep has traditionally been recognized as a precipitating factor for some forms of epilepsy, although differential diagnosis between some seizure types and parasomnias may be difficult. P-selectin and P-selectin glycoprotein ligand (SELPLG, selectin P ligand) constitute a receptor/ligand complex that is likely to be involved in the development of atherosclerosis and its complications. While the genetic variability of P-selectin has already been investigated in depth, that of the SELPLG gene has not yet been extensively explored. The coding and regulatory sequences of the SELPLG were screened and nine polymorphisms were identified. Prostasomes as zinc ligands in human seminal plasma

Prostasomes are small vesicles, containing zinc, secreted by prostate in human seminal plasma and showing a physiological role on sperm properties. In this study, the possible correspondence between prostasomes and a prostatic high molecular weight protein complex, recently indicated as zinc ligand, has been investigated. Isolated prostasomes, examined by scanning electron microscopy, were dialysed to evaluate their zinc binding capacity. Furthermore, seminal plasma Sephadex G-75 elution was carried out before and after prostasome removal. Accumulation of senescent cells may drive age-associated alterations and pathologies. Senolytics are promising therapeutics that can preferentially eliminate senescent cells. Here, we performed a high-throughput automatized screening (HTS) of the commercial LOPAC®Pfizer library on aphidicolin-induced senescent human fibroblasts, to identify novel senolytics. Na+ ions binding to the bradykinin B2 receptor suppress agonist-independent receptor activation.

Control of the balance between receptor activation and inactivation is a prerequisite for seven transmembrane domain (7TM) receptor function. We asked for a mechanism to stabilize the inactive receptor conformation which prevents agonist-independent receptor activation. Na+ ions have reciprocal effects on agonist versus antagonist interaction with various 7TM receptors. Agonist-induced formation of FGFR1 homodimers and signaling differ among members of the FGF family

Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) is known to be activated by homodimerization in the presence of both the FGF agonist ligand and heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan. FGFR1 homodimers in turn trigger a variety of downstream signaling cascades via autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues in the cytoplasmic domain of FGFR1. Actions of two GABAA receptor benzodiazepine-site ligands that are mediated via non-γ2-dependent modulation.

The potent sedative-hypnotic zolpidem and the convulsant methyl-6,7-dimethoxy-4-ethyl-β-carboline-3-carboxylate (DMCM) act primarily by binding to the benzodiazepine site of the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptor, the pentameric γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor (GABA(A)). This binding depends critically on the wild-type F77 residue of the GABA(A) receptor γ2 subunit. Mice with γ2 subunit F77I point mutation (γ2I77 mouse line) lose the high-affinity nanomolar binding of these ligands as well as their most robust behavioral actions at low doses. Eight gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mimetics were tested on their ability to differentiate native GABA(A) receptor subtypes present in various rat brain regions.
