Spatial information transmission using axial temporal coherence coding

We present an approach that can be used for transmission of information through space-limited systems or for superresolution. The spatial information is coded with different axial temporal coherence by interfering every spatial region in the input with the same region, but with a certain known delay in the longitudinal axis. Every spatial region has different delay. After mixing all of the spatial information, it is transmitted through the space-limited system. Scanning optical microscopy modeling in nanoplasmonics

International audience; One of the main purposes of nanoplasmonics is the miniaturization of optical and electro-optical components that could be integrable in coplanar geometry. In this context, we propose a numerical model of a polarized scanning optical microscope able to faithfully reproduce both photon luminescence and temperature distribution images associated with complex plasmonic structures. Excitation of E1-forbidden Atomic Transitions with Electric, Magnetic or Mixed Multipolarity in Light Fields Carrying Orbital and Spin Angular Moment…

Photons carrying a well-defined orbital angular momentum have been proven to modify spectroscopic selection rules in atomic matter. Excitation profiles of electric quadrupole transitions have been measured with single trapped $^{40}$Ca$^+$ ions for varying polarizations. We further develop the photo-absorption formalism to study the case of arbitrary alignment of the beam's optical axis with respect to the ion's quantization axis and mixed multipolarity. Thus, predictions for M1-dominated $^{40}Ar^{13+}$, E3-driven $^{171}Yb^+$ and $^{172}Yb^+$, and B-like $^{20}Ne^{5+}$ are presented. Ultrafast beam shaping with high-numerical-aperture microscope objectives

Ultrafast diffraction results in spatiotemporal un-coupling of the wave field, inducing spectral anomalies and pulse stretching. Localized compensation may be achieved via angular dispersion driven by diffractive optical elements (DOEs). We report on an DOEs-based beam shaper of ultrashort optical pulses with high spatiotemporal resolution. Inspection of the validity of our approach is performed in the single-cycle regime.

Sampling expansions for three-dimensional light amplitude distribution in the vicinity of an axial image point: comment.

Landgrave and Berriel-Valdos presented axial and radial sampling expansions for three-dimensional light amplitude distribution around the Gaussian focal point. [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 14, 2962 (1997)]. The expansions were obtained under the assumption that the pupil function was rotationally symmetric. We present a new derivation of the axial expansion that does not make use of arbitrary formal assumptions used by Landgrave and Berriel-Valdos and eliminates some faults of the derivation given by Arsenault and Boivin, who published this expansion in 1967 [J. Minkowskian description of polarized light and polarizers.

A conventional Stokes description of polarized light is considered in a four-dimensional Lorentzian space, developing a seminal idea of Paul Soleillet [Ann. Phys. (Paris) 12, 23 (1929)]. This provides a striking interpretation for the degree of polarization and the Stokes decomposition of light beams. Malus law and reciprocity theorems for polarizers are studied using this Lorentzian formalism.

Analysis of photon-scanning tunneling microscope images of inhomogeneous samples: determination of the local refractive index of channel waveguides

Channel waveguides are imaged by a photon-scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM). The polarization of the light and its orientation with respect to the guide axis are shown to be very important parameters in the analysis of the images of such samples. We simulated image formation for the plane of incidence parallel to the axis of the guide. Our theoretical results are qualitatively in agreement with our measurements. These results show the ability of the PSTM to give information about the local refractive-index variations of a sample.

Observation of collapse arrest in pure kerr media sustained by a parametric interaction

We demonstrate a parametric interaction based on four wave mixing that can arrest the collapse and stabilize solitary propagation in a pure Kerr material by controlling the wavelength of the interacting beams.

Two frequency oscillation of a photorefractive oscillator as a perturbation of the mirrorless oscillation

We consider the properties of the non-degenerate two frequency regime of oscillation of the semi-linear photorefractive oscillator and analyze its relation with the mirrorless oscillation. We consider the oscillator with or without a frequency shifted feedback by a vibrating mirror. This study shows that these two apparently different phenomena are closely related. We conclude from the obtained results that the two frequency oscillation can be considered as a perturbation of the mirrorless oscillation.

Vector modes generation using efficient on-axis system

2020

Arbitrary polarized vector beam modes are efficiently generated. We use two flicker-free liquid-crystal on silicon (LCOS) spatial light modulators (SLM) in an on-axis common path architecture. Different superpositions of vector modes are obtained with high light efficiency.
