Characterization of quantum dot/conducting polymer hybrid films and their application to light-emitting diodes.

Quantum dot/conducting polymer hybrid films are used to prepare light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The hybrid films (CdSe@ZnS quantum dots excellently dispersed in a conducting polymer matrix, see figure) are readily prepared by various solution-based processes and are also easily micropatterned. The LEDs exhibit a turn-on voltage of 4 V, an external quantum efficiency greater than 1.5%, and almost pure-green quantum-dot electroluminescence.

Reduced efficiency roll-off in light-emitting diodes enabled by quantum dot–conducting polymer nanohybrids

We demonstrate QLEDs implementing wider active layers (50 nm) based on QD–conducting polymer nanohybrids, which exhibit a stable operational device performance across a wide range of current densities and brightness. A comparative study reveals that the significant suppression of efficiency roll-off in the high current density regime is primarily attributed to a sufficient charge carrier distribution over the wider active layer and improved charge carrier balance within QDs enabled by the hybridization of QDs with conducting polymers. Thermal sensor based on a polymer nanofilm

In this work, we have developed a thermal sensor based on poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanofilms as thermoelectric material. The PEDOT nanofilms have been synthesized by the electrochemical polymerization method. The thicknesses of the films were around 120 nm. The doping level of PEDOT was controlled by chemical reduction using hydrazine. The achieved Seebeck coeficient is 40 uV/K. A PEDOT nanofilm was integrated into an electronic circuit that amplifies the voltage originated from the Seebeck effect. The temperature increment produced by a fingerprint touching the film is enough to switch on a light emitting diode. Peer Reviewed

Multi-pumping mechanised determination of selenium in natural waters by light emitting diode (LED) spectrometry

It has been developed a fully mechanised procedure for the determination of selenium in waters employing a LED based spectrometer and solenoid multi-pumps as solution propelling devices. The proposed method is based on the reaction of selenium with potassium iodide in an acidic medium to liberate iodine, which oxidizes Variamine Blue to form a violet-colour species which absorb at 530 nm. The system was mechanised using the multicommutation process and a stopped flow strategy in the final step reaction. The analytical curve was linear between 0.010 and 0.500 mg L-1, with an equation ΔA = 0.501 (± 0.004) C and r = 0.999. The limit of detection (3σ/S) obtained for the proposed method was 0.00…

Speciation of chromium in natural waters by micropumping multicommutated light emitting diode photometry.

Abstract A simple and sensitive multicommutated flow procedure, implemented by employing a homemade light emitting diode (LED) based photometer, has been developed for the determination of chromium (VI) and total chromium in water. The flow system comprised a set of four solenoid micro-pumps, which were assembled to work as fluid propelling and as commutating devices. The core of the detection unit comprised a green LED source, a photodiode and a homemade flow cell of 100 mm length and 2 mm inner diameter. Multicolour LEDs in educational demonstrations of physics and optometry

LED light sources are used to design experimental setup for university courses teaching human color vision. The setup allows to demonstrate various vision characteristics and to apply for student practical exercises to study eye spectral sensitivity in different spectral range using heterochromatic flicker photometry. Technique can be used in laboratory works for students to acquire knowledge in visual perception, basics of electronics and measuring, or it can be applied as fully computer control experiment. Besides studies of the eye spectral sensitivity students can practice in trichromatic color matching and other visual perception tasks

This letter reports the experimental demonstration of an indoor visible light nonimaging multiple-input multiple-output system with an aggregate error free bit rate of 50 Mb/s over a distance of 2 m. The system uses four independent white LED transmitters, each transmitting 12.5 Mb/s of data in the ON-OFF keying nonreturn zero format, and four independent nonimaging optical receivers. The performance of four detection methods ranging from the basic channel inversion to the more advanced space time techniques is compared experimentally. Optical design improvement for noncontact skin cancer diagnostic device

Multispectral diffuse reflectance imaging and autofluorescence photo-bleaching imaging are methods that have been investigated for use in skin disorder diagnostics. In response to the ever-increasing incidence of skin cancer in light skinned populations a new device has been designed incorporating both of these methods. The aim of the study was to create a device that is most efficient in terms of hardware and software parameters for the screening of malignant and benign skin lesions.
