Circuit proposals for high-voltage latching current limiters
2019
This work discusses some ideas to adapt existing low voltage Latching Current Limiter (LCL) circuits to high voltage operation to provide a basis for future designs. Component selection, driver and ancillary power supply are key issues discussed which eventually provides a high-voltage LCL proposal. Experimental validation of two different prototypes (380Vdc and 1kVdc) is included as well as some digital techniques to enhance LCL capabilities.
A New Method for Measuring the Oxygen Content in Microliter Samples of Gases and Liquids: The Oxygen Cuvette
1978
Gas analytical processes for the determination of oxygen content or concentration are based partly on physical principles (e.g. mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, paramagnetic methods) and partly on chemical methods (e.g. gasometric, titrimetric, electrochemical or photometric methods).
Influence of mechanoactivation on the adhesion and mechanical properties of metal/oxide interfaces
2005
Properties of interfaces in solid state metal/oxide joints (Al/SiO2, Al/MgO, Al/glass, Mg/MgO, In/glass, Mg/SiO2 etc.) are reported. Interfaces were formed at plastic deformation of metal on the oxide surface at room temperature. Structure, composition, and micromechanical properties of the interfaces are studied by AFM, X-ray diffraction, SIMS, electron, optical microscopy, and precision microindentation. A noticeable adhesion is observed in the regions of maximum shear strain in case of metals with low oxide formation energy. Formation of a reaction zone with oxygen concentration gradient is detected in which the metal near the interface hardens. The effect of mechanoactivation is conside…
Metric regularity and subdifferential calculus in Banach spaces
1995
In this paper we give verifiable conditions in terms of limiting Frechet subdifferentials ensuring the metric regularity of a multivalued functionF(x)=−g(x)+D. We apply our results to the study of the limiting Frechet subdifferential of a composite function defined on a Banach space.
Parsimony hierarchies for inductive inference
2004
AbstractFreivalds defined an acceptable programming system independent criterion for learning programs for functions in which the final programs were required to be both correct and “nearly” minimal size. i.e.. within a computable function of being purely minimal size. Kinber showed that this parsimony requirement on final programs limits learning power. However, in scientific inference, parsimony is considered highly desirable. Alim-computable functionis (by definition) one calculable by a total procedure allowed to change its mind finitely many times about its output. Investigated is the possibility of assuaging somewhat the limitation on learning power resulting from requiring parsimonio…
Tentative Recommendation on Terminology and Definitions in Respiratory Physiology: Résumé of the Isott Consensus Session 1992
1994
1 The use of small letters for the symbols “p” (partial pressure), “s” (saturation) and “c” (concentration) (e.g. pO2, sO2, cO2) follows recommendations of the IFCC and IUPAC [4]. This supports the use of contemporary word processing systems and mostly eliminates the need to use subscripts (except for chemical valencies: e.g. O2, CO2, H2CO3 etc.). The potential risk of misinterpretations and double meanings is reduced also (e.g. “cO2” [oxygen concentration] v.s. “CO2” [carbon dioxide] and “sO2” [oxygen saturation] v.s. “sO2” [sulfur dioxide]). 2 The symbol shall include the site of measurement or description, e.g. paO2 (arterial O2 partial pressure), svO2 (mixed venous oxygen saturation), o…
Development of tree-ring maximum latewood density chronologies for the western Tien Shan Mountains, China: Influence of detrending method and climate…
2013
a b s t r a c t Three tree-ring maximum latewood density chronologies were developed from high elevation Picea schrenkiana sites in the western Tien Shan Mountains using different detrending methods. The new chro- nologies extend back to the early 16th and late 17th centuries, and contain significant late spring and summer temperature signals, respectively. An assessment of varying detrending methods and band-pass filtering the chronologies revealed only slightly differing low frequency trends retained in the maximum latewood densities. The distance between sampling sites and the varying seasonality of limiting climatic factors are identified as key drivers affecting the correlation among t…
The Role of Education in Preventing Diseases
2012
Political change in Poland since the 1990s has involved not only transformation of the economy but also social policy, including that pertaining to the structure, financing, and functioning of the health care system. Health education and promotion is gaining in importance and increasingly is being seen as a strategy that is effective in limiting the incidence of certain diseases. Health education is effective because it helps make people aware that it is better to prevent disease than to cure it. As Sen (1999) reminds us, health is a vital component of human capability.
Sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO2 with 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid
2014
Optical properties of 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) in the presence of nanocrystalline TiO2 (nominal diameter 15 nm) have been investigated in ethanol solution and in the solid state by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence. Experimental results show that, in ethanol, the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles causes significant changes in the typical absorption and fluorescence bands of PTCA and in the fluorescence relaxation time. Similar effects are also detected in solid samples, obtained by electrospray deposition technique. The nonlinear optical properties of the PTCA-TiO2 in ethanol solutions were investigated using the single-beam Z-s…
