Photoinduced mass transport in azo compounds
2013
The photoinduced changes of optical properties in azobenzene containing compound thin films were studied under influence of polarized and non-polarized 532 nm laser light. Under influence of light azo compounds experience trans-cis isomerisation process, that can be observed in the absorbance spectrum of the sample. If the light is linearly polarized, molecules align perpendicularly to the electric field vector and as a result photoinduced dichroism and birefringence is obtained. If a known lateral polarization modulation of the light beam is present, mass transport of the azobenzene containing compound occurs. By measuring the surface relief with a profilometer the direction of mass transp…
Germanium microparticles as optically induced oscillators in optical tweezers
2019
Oscillatory dynamics is a key tool in optical tweezers applications. It is usually implemented by mechanical interventions that cannot be optically controlled. In this work we show that Germanium semiconductor beads behave as optically induced oscillators when subjected to a highly focused laser beam. Such unusual motion is due to the competition between the usual optical forces [1-3] and the radiometric force related to thermal effects, which pushes the beads from the focal region [4]. We characterize the behavior of the Germanium beads in detail and propose a model accounting for the related forces, in good agreement with the experimental data. The well defined direction of oscillations c…
Frequency tunable polarization and intermodal modulation instability in high birefringence holey fiber
2009
International audience; We present an experimental analysis of polarization and intermodal noise-seeded parametric amplification, in which dispersion is phase matched by group velocity mismatch between either polarization or spatial modes in birefringent holey fiber with elliptical core composed of a triple defect. By injecting quasi-CW intense linearly polarized pump pulses either parallel or at 45 degrees with respect to the fiber polarization axes, we observed the simultaneous generation of polarization or intermodal modulation instability sidebands. Furthermore, by shifting the pump wavelength from 532 to 625 nm, we observed a shift of polarization sidebands from 3 to 8 THz, whereas int…
Symmetry of valence states of Heusler compounds explored by linear dichroism in hard-x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
2011
This study reports on the linear dichroism in angular-resolved photoemission from the valence band of the Heusler compounds ${\mathrm{NiTi}}_{0.9}{\mathrm{Sc}}_{0.1}\mathrm{Sn}$ and NiMnSb. High-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy was performed with an excitation energy of $h\ensuremath{\nu}=7.938\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{keV}$. The linear polarization of the photons was changed using an in-vacuum diamond phase retarder. The valence band spectra exhibit the typical structure expected from first-principles calculations of the electronic structure of these compounds. Noticeable linear dichroism is found in the valence band of both materials, and this allows for a symmetry analysis of the cont…
Structures optiques dissipatives en cavité laser à fibre
2011
This thesis presents a study of the nonlinear dissipative dynamics of localized of self organized structures in passively mode-locked fiber laser through nonlinear polarization evolution. We reveal the existence of a gradual transition from the quasi-cw to mode locked dynamics in the multi-pulsing regime. We emphasize on the intermediate state, where various new dynamics are observed. We study collective behaviors of dissipative solitons in the presence of a continuous background. One of the complex and attractive dynamics presented is the "soliton rain", which composed of three field components : continuous modes of background, drifting of solitons and condensed phase solitons. This dynami…
Q-switched mode locking noise-like pulse generation from a thulium-doped all-fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation
2021
Abstract Q-switched mode locking (QML) noise-like pulse (NLP) emission from an all-fiber thulium-doped laser based on the nonlinear polarization rotation effect is reported. The QML emission is obtained in a cavity with net anomalous dispersion in a pump power interval in between the CW laser threshold and the threshold of the NLP regime. Highest-energy QML pulses were observed with a repetition rate of 812 kHz with a pump power of 520 mW at the optical wavelength of 1881.09 nm. A maximum overall energy of 460 nJ at an average output power of 6.4 mW was reached, which corresponds to a burst of mode-locked noise-like sub-pulses with 8.7 ns of pulse duration within a QML envelope of 11 µs. Th…
Linearly polarized gluons and axial charge fluctuations in the glasma
2018
We calculate of the one- and two-point correlation functions of the energy density and the divergence of the Chern-Simons current in the nonequilibrium Glasma state formed in a high-energy nuclear collision. We show that the latter depends on the difference of the total and linearly polarized gluon transverse momentum distributions. Since the divergence of the Chern-Simons current provides the source of axial charge, we infer information about the statistical properties of axial charge production at early times. We further develop a simple phenomenological model to characterize axial charge distributions in terms of distributions of the energy density.
Demonstration of Stimulated-Raman-scattering suppression in optical fibers in a multifrequency pumping configuration
1999
International audience; We analyze the stimulated-Raman-scattering-(SRS) process induced by a linearly polarized multifrequency pump field in a normally dispersive single-mode fiber. We show, by theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, that the SRS process may be either controlled by switching all the generated Stokes radiations to the lowest-frequency pump or suppressed for all the frequency components of the pump field. The suppression process is achieved by an appropriate choice of the frequency separation between the pumps and a particular power distribution among the frequency components of the pump field. We present experimental spectra showing the effectiveness of this suppres…
Measurement of the proton scalar polarizabilities at MAMI
2019
The electric (αE1) and magnetic (βM1) scalar polarizabilities describe the response of the nucleon to an applied electric or magnetic field. They are not only fundamental properties related to the internal structure and dynamics of the nucleon, but they are important also in other areas of physics, such as atomic structure. The values of αE1 and βM1 quoted by the Particle Data Group were determined using data on the unpolarized differential cross-section of the Compton scattering $\gamma p \to \gamma p$. The measurement of the beam asymmetry Σ3, provides an alternative approach to the extraction of the scalar polarizabilities, with different sensitivity and systematics compared to the unpol…
Measurement of e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686) from 4.008 to 4.600 GeV and observation of a charged structure in the π±ψ(3686) mass spectrum
2018
We study the process e(+)e(-) -> p(+)p(-)psi(3686) using 5.1 fb(-1) of data collected at 16 center-of-mass energy (root s) points from 4.008 to 4.600 GeV by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The measured Born cross sections for e(+)e(-) -> p(+)p(-)psi(3686) are consistent with previous results, but with much improved precision. A fit to the cross section shows contributions from two structures: the first has M = 4209.5 +/- 7.4 +/- 1.4 MeV/c(2) and Gamma = 80.1 +/- 24.6 +/- 2.9 MeV, and the second has M = 4383.8 +/- 4.2 +/- 0.8 MeV/c(2) and Gamma = 84.2 +/- 12.5 +/- 2.1 MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. The lower-mass resonance is obse…
