Data-driven design of robust fault detection system for wind turbines

Abstract In this paper, a robust data-driven fault detection approach is proposed with application to a wind turbine benchmark. The main challenges of the wind turbine fault detection lie in its nonlinearity, unknown disturbances as well as significant measurement noise. To overcome these difficulties, a data-driven fault detection scheme is proposed with robust residual generators directly constructed from available process data. A performance index and an optimization criterion are proposed to achieve the robustness of the residual signals related to the disturbances. Design of Bilateral Switched Reluctance Linear Generator to Convert Wave Energy: Case Study in Sicily

The aim of this work is a case study of the adaptation bilateral switched reluctance linear generator to the exploitation of energy of the sea. This type of generator can be used to convert wave energy in electrical energy. In this paper we present an analytical sizing and FEM simulation. As for the results, analysis of the data extracted through the simulations it was possible to calculate the emf. The emf was calculated in two cases of motion of the slider: first hypothesis has set the constant speed while the second is a variable speed according to the law of an oscillatory motion of the sea.

Abstract This paper aims at finding a framework for the Sicilian Calcarenites relating the strength and the deformability of these materials to their geological and structural features: fabric, bonding, initial and actual specific volume. In particular, this study sets out to separate the effects of fabric and of bonding on the mechanical response. Two Methods to Broaden the Bandwidth of a Nonlinear Piezoelectric Bimorph Power Harvester

We propose two methods to broaden the operation bandwidth of a nonlinear pinned–pinned piezoelectric bimorph power harvester. The energy-scavenging structure consists of a properly poled and electroded flexible bimorph with a metallic layer in the middle, and is subjected to flexural vibration. Nonlinear effects at large deformations near resonance are considered by taking the in-plane extension of the bimorph into account. Baseband predistorter using direct spline computation

A baseband predistorter is presented. Key features of the predistorter reside in the use of cubic spline interpolation to generate predistorted input data to the power amplifier, without time convergence problems of classical approaches, with the goal of a reduction in the computational effort. Simulated behaviour of the proposed scheme is presented, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach.

Abstract Friction and disturbances of the road are the main sources of nonlinearity in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) System. Consequently, conventional linear controllers design based on a simplified linear model of the EPS system will result in poor dynamic performance or system instability. Observation and identification tools for non-linear systems: application to a fluid catalytic cracker

In this paper we recall general methodologies we developed for observation and identification in non-linear systems theory, and we show how they can be applied to real practical problems. In a previous paper, we introduced a filter which is intermediate between the extended Kalman filter in its standard version and its high-gain version, and we applied it to certain observation problems. On the Impact of Plant Model and Controller Sophistication on Performance of Disturbance Attenuation and System Robustness

In the paper the problem of disturbance attenuation performance in single-loop control system is investigated. Modified MV control strategy with bounded control variance is used as benchmark for both LQG and classically and optimally tuned PID-type controllers. Certain time and frequency domain functions are then examined to further assess the control performance in terms of robustness. Fiber laser mode locked through an evolutionary algorithm

Mode locking of fiber lasers generally involves adjusting several control parameters, in connection with a wide range of accessible short-pulse dynamics. In this Letter, we experimentally demonstrate the ability of an evolutionary algorithm to prescribe a set of cavity parameters entailing specific self-starting mode locking. The prescribed parameters are applied to electrically driven polarization controllers, thus shaping the effective nonlinear transfer function at play within the fiber cavity.
