Kernel image similarity criterion

2011

This paper presents a family of metrics for assessing image similarity. The methods use the Hilbert-Schmidt Independence Criterion (HSIC) to estimate nonlinear statistical dependence between multidimensional images. The proposed methods have very good theoretical and practical properties. We illustrate the performance in evaluating the quality of natural photographic images, hyperspectral images under different noise levels, in synthetic multiresolution problems, and real pansharpening products.

Functional Linear Regression

2018

This article presents a selected bibliography on functional linear regression (FLR) and highlights the key contributions from both applied and theoretical points of view. It first defines FLR in the case of a scalar response and shows how its modelization can also be extended to the case of a functional response. It then considers two kinds of estimation procedures for this slope parameter: projection-based estimators in which regularization is performed through dimension reduction, such as functional principal component regression, and penalized least squares estimators that take into account a penalized least squares minimization problem. The article proceeds by discussing the main asympt…

Scad-elastic net and the estimation of individual tourism expenditure determinants

2014

This paper introduces the use of scad-elastic net in the assessment of the determinants of individual tourist spending. This technique approaches two main estimation-related issues of primary importance. So far studies of tourism literature have made a wide use of classic regressions, whose results might be affected by multicollinearity. In addition, because of the absence of robust economic theory on tourism behavior, regressor selection is often left to researcher's choice when not driven by non-optimal automatic criteria. Scad-elastic net is an OLS model that accounts for both these problems by including two types of parameters constraints, namely the smoothly clipped absolute deviation …

ESTIMATION OF THE INDUCTION MOTOR PARAMETERS

1995

ABSTRACT The paper presents the method of determining the parameters of induction machine models in an objective, algorythmic way employing the modified stepwise-regression method. The elaborated method is versatile. It enables to calculate parameters on the basis of the static characteristic or dynamic runs. The effectiveness of the described method is demonstrated in the paper by the examples of estimation of these parameters, which confirm the convergent of proposed method.

B-Spline Estimation in a Survey Sampling Framework

2021

Nonparametric regression models have been used more and more over the last years to model survey data and incorporate efficiently auxiliary information in order to improve the estimation of totals, means or other study parameters such as Gini index or poverty rate. B-spline nonparametric regression has the benefit of being very flexible in modeling nonlinear survey data while keeping many similarities and properties of the classical linear regression. This method proved to be efficient for deriving a unique system of weights which allowed to estimate in an efficient way and simultaneously many study parameters. Applications on real and simulated survey data showed its high efficiency. This …

Missing Value Estimation for Microarray Data by Bayesian Principal Component Analysis and Iterative Local Least Squares

2013

Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from Hindawi: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/162938 Missing values are prevalent in microarray data, they course negative influence on downstream microarray analyses, and thus they should be estimated from known values. We propose a BPCA-iLLS method, which is an integration of two commonly used missing value estimation methods-Bayesian principal component analysis (BPCA) and local least squares (LLS). The inferior row-average procedure in LLS is replaced with BPCA, and the least squares method is put into an iterative framework. Comparative result shows that the proposed method has obtaine…

Methods to Use Big Wearable Heart Rate Data for Estimation of Physical Activity in Population Level

2015

Technologies for wearable health monitoring are becoming increasingly popular and affordable. As a result, large-scale health databases from a large number of individuals are becoming available. However, analysis of these databases requires special methodology to transform available parameters into more generic ones and to manage such non-balanced data characteristics as biases and sampling issues. In this paper, we introduce a methodology for studying physical activity from big wearable heart rate (HR) data on about 5 000 working-age individuals, each measured only for a few days. Physical activity was assessed by oxygen consumption (VO2) calculated from measured HR data using a neural net…

Polypropylene and poly(ethylene-co-1-octene) effective synthesis with diamine-bis(phenolate) complexes: Effect of complex structure on catalyst activ…

2017

A series of group 4 metal complexes bearing amine-bis(phenolate) ligands with the amino side-arm donor: (μ-O)[Me2N(CH2)2N(CH2-2-O-3,5-tBu2-C6H2)2ZrCl]2 (1a), R2N(CH2)2N(CH2-2-O-3-R1-5-R2-C6H2)2TiCl2 (R = Me, R1, R2 = tBu (2a), R = iPr, R1, R2 = tBu (2b), R = iPr, R1 = tBu, R2 = OMe (2c)), and Me2N(CH2)2N(CH2-2-O-3,5-tBu2-C6H2)(CH2-2-O-C6H4)TiCl2 (2d) are used in ethylene and propylene homopolymerization, and ethylene/1-octene copolymerization. All complexes, upon their activation with Al(iBu)3/Ph3CB(C6F5)4, exhibit reasonable catalytic activity for ethylene homo- and copolymerization giving linear polyethylene with high to ultra-high molecular weight (600·× 103–3600·× 103 g/mol). An application of the arithmetic euler function to the construction of nonclassical states of a quantum harmonic oscillator

2001

Abstract All quantum superpositions of two equal intensity coherent states exhibiting infinitely many zeros in their Fock distributions are explicitly constructed and studied. Our approach is based on results from number theory and, in particular, on the properties of arithmetic Euler function. The nonclassical nature of these states is briefly pointed out. Some interesting properties are brought to light.
