Theoretical approaches that use one-body densities as dynamical variables, such as Hartree-Fock or the density functional theory (DFT), break isospin symmetry both explicitly, by virtue of charge-dependent interactions, and spontaneously. To restore the spontaneously broken isospin symmetry, we implemented the isospin-projection scheme on top of the Skyrme-DFT approach. This development allows for consistent treatment of isospin mixing in both ground and exited nuclear states. In this study, we apply this method to evaluate the isospin impurities in ground states of even-even and odd-odd N~Z nuclei. By including simultaneous isospin and angular-momentum projection, we compute the isospin-br…

The Complete Two-Loop Integrated Jet Thrust Distribution In Soft-Collinear Effective Theory

2013

In this work, we complete the calculation of the soft part of the two-loop integrated jet thrust distribution in e+e- annihilation. This jet mass observable is based on the thrust cone jet algorithm, which involves a veto scale for out-of-jet radiation. The previously uncomputed part of our result depends in a complicated way on the jet cone size, r, and at intermediate stages of the calculation we actually encounter a new class of multiple polylogarithms. We employ an extension of the coproduct calculus to systematically exploit functional relations and represent our results concisely. In contrast to the individual contributions, the sum of all global terms can be expressed in terms of cla…

Photoproduction of pions at low energy

1980

Presented in this paper is a field theory model for photoproduction of pions at low energy. In particular, it is shown that certain interaction terms, which were previously considered to be essential in order to explain the experimental situation corresponding to the spin-3/2 resonances, are really unnecessary and that the presence of these terms are not justifiable from the theoretical point of view. Further, the free parameters in the theory representing the off-mass-shell effects of the spin-3/2 particles are fixed on the basis of theoretical considerations.

Hadron form factors and large-Nc phenomenology

2014

The half width rule provides a way to consider 1/Nc corrections to hadronic models containing resonances. Consequences of such ideas for hadron form factors and Regge trajectories are explored, with special emphasis on the possibility to describe the spectrum of light and heavy unflavored vector mesons in a universal way.

Higher-Order Corrections to Sirlin's Theorem inO(p6)Chiral Perturbation Theory

1997

We present the results of the first two-loop calculation of a form factor in full $\mathrm{SU}(3)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathrm{SU}(3)$ chiral perturbation theory. We choose a specific linear combination of ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$, ${K}^{+}$, ${K}^{0}$, and $K\ensuremath{\pi}$ form factors (the one appearing in Sirlin's theorem) which does not get contributions from order ${p}^{6}$ operators with unknown constants. For the charge radii, the corrections to the previous one-loop result turn out to be significant. To clearly identify the two-loop effects, more accurate measurements of the kaon and pion electromagnetic charge radii would be desirable.

Determination of the top quark mass circa 2013: methods, subtleties, perspectives

2013

We present an up-to-date overview of the problem of top quark mass determination. We assess the need for precision in the top mass extraction in the LHC era together with the main theoretical and experimental issues arising in precision top mass determination. We collect and document existing results on top mass determination at hadron colliders and map the prospects for future precision top mass determination at e+e- colliders. We present a collection of estimates for the ultimate precision of various methods for top quark mass extraction at the LHC.

Statistical mechanics of the NLS models and their avatars

2006

“In Vishnuland what avatar? Or who in Moscow (Leningrad) towards the czar [1]”. The different manifestations (avatars) of the Nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS models) are described including both classical and quantum integrable cases. For reasons explained the sinh-Gordon and sine-Gordon models, which can be interpreted as covariant manifestations of the ‘repulsive’ and ‘attractive’ NLS models, respectively, are chosen as generic models for the statistical mechanics. It is shown in the text how the quantum and classical free energies can be calculated by a method of functional integration which uses the classical action-angle variables on the real line with decaying boundary conditions,…

Exact non-Hookean scaling of cylindrically bent elastic sheets and the large-amplitude pendulum

2010

A sheet of elastic foil rolled into a cylinder and deformed between two parallel plates acts as a non-Hookean spring if deformed normally to the axis. For large deformations the elastic force shows an interesting inverse squares dependence on the interplate distance [Siber and Buljan, arXiv:1007.4699 (2010)]. The phenomenon has been used as a basis for an experimental problem at the 41st International Physics Olympiad. We show that the corresponding variational problem for the equilibrium energy of the deformed cylinder is equivalent to a minimum action description of a simple gravitational pendulum with an amplitude of 90 degrees. We use this analogy to show that the power-law of the force…

Dynamic percolation transition induced by phase separation: A Monte Carlo analysis

1987

The percolation transition of geometric clusters in the three-dimensional, simple cubic, nearest neighbor Ising lattice gas model is investigated in the temperature and concentration region inside the coexistence curve. We consider “quenching experiments,” where the system starts from an initially completely random configuration (corresponding to equilibrium at infinite temperature), letting the system evolve at the considered temperature according to the Kawasaki “spinexchange” dynamics. Analyzing the distributionnl(t) of clusters of sizel at timet, we find that after a time of the order of about 100 Monte Carlo steps per site a percolation transition occurs at a concentration distinctly l…

Structural similarities and differences among attractors and their intensity maps in the laser-Lorenz model

1995

Abstract Numerical studies of the laser-Lorenz model using parameters reasonably accessible for recent experiments with a single mode homogeneously broadened laser demonstrate that the form of the return map of successive peak values of the intensity changes from a sharply cusped map in resonance to a map with a smoothly rounded maximum as the laser is detuned into the period doubling regime. This transformation appears to be related to the disappearance (with detuning) of the heteroclinic structural basis for the stable manifold which exists in resonance. This is in contrast to the evidence reported by Tang and Weiss (Phys. Rev. A 49 (1994) 1296) of a cusped map for both the period doublin…
