Multiple solutions for a Dirichlet problem with p-Laplacian and set-valued nonlinearity

2008

AbstractThe existence of a negative solution, of a positive solution, and of a sign-changing solution to a Dirichlet eigenvalue problem with p-Laplacian and multi-valued nonlinearity is investigated via sub- and supersolution methods as well as variational techniques for nonsmooth functions.

QCD sum rule calculation ofK ℓ3 form factors

1992

We present a combined finite energy sum rule (FESR) and analytic continuation by duality (ACD) calculation of the (neutral)K l3 decay. We confirm the Callan-Treiman relation and investigate the validity of a linear fit for the form factors. Furthermore, we obtain ζ=−0.1...−0.3, consistent with the mean experimental value ζ=−0.1±0.09.

Bounded weak solutions to superlinear Dirichlet double phase problems

2023

AbstractIn this paper we study a Dirichlet double phase problem with a parametric superlinear right-hand side that has subcritical growth. Under very general assumptions on the data, we prove the existence of at least two nontrivial bounded weak solutions to such problem by using variational methods and critical point theory. In contrast to other works we do not need to suppose the Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition.

Nonlinearity in intergenerational income transmission: A cross-country analysis

2016

Abstract The aim of this paper is to explore nonlinearity in intergenerational income transmission. We use a set of occupational tables in different countries to test nonlinearity. We also empirically address how policy variables can affect nonlinearity. Our findings suggest that concavity is supported in those societies with less credit constraints, but with more poverty and income inequality; education has an increasing effect on convexity.

GIS-based hedonic pricing of landscape

2009

ACL; International audience; Hedonic prices of landscape are estimated in the urban fringe of Dijon (France). Viewshed and its content as perceived at ground level are analyzed from satellite images supplemented by a digital elevation model. Landscape attributes are then fed into econometric models (based on 2,667 house sales) that allows for endogeneity, multicollinearity, and spatial correlations. Results show that when in the line of sight, trees and farmland in the immediate vicinity of houses command positive prices and roads negative prices; if out of sight, their prices are markedly lower or insignificant: the view itself matters. The layout of features in fragmented landscapes comma…

Finance, globalisation, technology and inequality: Do nonlinearities matter?

2021

Abstract Relying on data for 90 economies over 1970-2015 and panel estimation techniques, we investigate how financial development, globalisation and technology affect income inequality. Our findings reveal significant nonlinearities, consistent with either Ushaped or inverted-U shaped relationships. As such, depending on whether a certain threshold value is achieved, the same determinants of income distribution exert opposite effects in different countries. Globalisation is associated with increasing inequality in most advanced economies, but with falling disparities for the large majority of emerging economies. Technology and financial development lead to increasing inequality for most em…

No linealidad y asimetría en el proceso generador del Índice Ibex35

2013

This paper analyzes the behavior of Ibex35 from January 1999 to December 2001, in order to check if it follows a different process from random walk so its return is not a white noise and it can be predictable, against the efficient market hypothesis. For that, a nonlinear generating process of return will be considered and a STAR-APARCH model will be specified. This model allows a nonlinear behavior in the conditional mean and in the conditional variance. The empirical results show that the Ibex35 follows a nonlinear and asymmetric process, both in the conditional mean as in the conditional variance, so the weak-version of efficient market hypothesis is rejected. El trabajo analiza el compo…

Complexity and Nonlinearity Analysis of the Time Series of Electric Field Intensity

2021

In this work, the conditional entropy (CE) and the method of surrogate data are applied on time series of electric field (EF) intensity to explore their degree of complexity and the possible presence of nonlinear dynamics. The time series were obtained during the wide-band cumulative EF intensity monitoring, performed by one sensor of the Serbian EMF RATEL monitoring system installed in the campus area of the University of Novi Sad, and are re-sampled at one sample per two hours over consecutive time epochs of one month duration. The field intensity measurements during the years 2019 and 2020 allowed us to explore the effects of mobility restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic on the …

Least energy solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the equation −D(u) = f (x, u)

2017

Let be a bounded smooth domain in RN. We prove a general existence result of least energy solutions and least energy nodal ones for the problem −u = f(x, u) in u = 0 on ∂ (P) where f is a Carathéodory function. Our result includes some previous results related to special cases of f . Finally, we propose some open questions concerning the global minima of the restriction on the Nehari manifold of the energy functional associated with (P) when the nonlinearity is of the type f(x, u) = λ|u| s−2u − μ|u| r−2u, with s, r ∈ (1, 2) and λ,μ > 0.

Parameter subset selection for the dynamic calibration of activated sludge models (ASMs): experience versus systems analysis.

2007

In this work we address the issue of parameter subset selection within the scope of activated sludge model calibration. To this end, we evaluate two approaches: (i) systems analysis and (ii) experience-based approach. The evaluation has been carried out using a dynamic model (ASM2d) calibrated to describe nitrogen and phosphorus removal in the Haaren WWTP (The Netherlands). The parameter significance ranking shows that the temperature correction coefficients are among the most influential parameters on the model output. This outcome confronts the previous identifiability studies and the experience based approaches which excluded them from their analysis. Systems analysis reveals that parame…
