Predictive factors of polycystic ovary syndrome in girls with precocious pubarche
2021
Objective: The aim of this study is to clarify, in girls with premature pubarche (PP), the influence of premature androgenization on the prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Design and patients: Ninety-nine PP girls, 63 who developed PCOS and 36 who did not develop PCOS, were retrospectively included. Clinical, anthropometric, and metabolic parameters were evaluated at the time of diagnosis of PP and after 10 years from menarche to find predictive factors of PCOS. Results: Young females with PP showed a PCOS prevalence of 64% and showed a higher prevalence of familial history of diabetes (P = 0.004) and a lower prevalence of underweight (P = 0.025) than PP-NO-PCOS. In addition, g…
Correction to: One Year of Dapaglifozin Add-On Therapy Ameliorates Surrogate Indexes of Insulin Resistance and Adiposity in Patients with Type 2 Diab…
2021
This study investigates the effects of dapagliflozin on the visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), product of triglycerides and glucose (TyG) and triglycerides to HDL-cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). In this real-life study, dapaglifozin was added to metformin alone (group 1, no. 42) or insulin plus metformin (group 2, no. 58) in 100 T2D patients. In group 1, after 6 months of dapaglifozin addition, a significant decrease in BMI (p < 0.001), waist circumference (WC) (p < 0.001), systolic blood pressure (SBP) (p = 0.009), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (p = 0.012), mean fasting blood glucose (FBG), post-breakfast glucose…
Is GH dosing optimal in female patients with adult-onset GH deficiency? An analysis from the NordiNet® International Outcome Study
2017
SummaryObjective To evaluate gender differences in GH dosing, IGF-I and cardiovascular risk markers in adults with GH deficiency (GHD). Design NordiNet® International Outcome Study (NCT00960128), a noninterventional, multicentre study, evaluates the long-term effectiveness and safety of Norditropin® (Novo Nordisk A/S) in the real-life clinical setting. Patients Nondiabetic patients (n = 252; 41·7% female) with adult-onset GHD (age ≥20 years at GH start), ≥4 years’ GH therapy and glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) data at baseline and 4 years. Measurements Effects of gender (adjusted for baseline age and body mass index [BMI], average GH dose, treatment duration and concomitant medication) on …
PS-078 Clinical Relevance Of Gamma-glutamyl Transpeptidase In Childhood Obesity
2014
Background and aims Metabolic risk leads to severe comorbidities in obesity. We evaluate the relationship between the values of gamma-glutamyl trans peptidase (GGT), a marker of hepatic involvement, and cardio metabolic risk factors in obese children. Methods A prospective cross-sectional study of 147 children (aged 7 to 16 years) was carried out. Ninety-five children were obese with a body mass index standard deviation score (SDS-BMI) >2 and 52 children were normal weight. Patients with endocrine disease or syndromic obesity were excluded. We have analysed clinical parameters of adiposity (fat mass by bioelectrical impedance, waist and hip circumference), blood pressure, and classical bioc…
Implant-specific follow-up imaging of treated intracranial aneurysms: TOF-MRA vs. metal artifact reduced intravenous flat panel computed tomography a…
2017
Aim To compare the diagnostic quality of time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) and metal-artefact-reduction (MAR) flat-panel-detector computed tomography angiography (FPCTA) and to determine the imaging technique best suited for evaluation endovascular and surgically treated aneurysms. Methods The image quality of TOF-MRA and MAR-FPCTA of 44 intracranial implants (coiling: n= 20; clipping: n= 15; coiling + stenting: n= 9) in a patient cohort of 25 was evaluated by two independent readers. Images obtained using MAR-FPCTA (20 second scan time, 496 projections, intravenous contrast medium administration; Artis Zee, Siemens Healthcare, Forchheim) were compared with TOF-MRA-ima…
No consequence of dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid deficiency on the severity of scopolamine-induced dry eye
2008
International audience; Purpose:Epidemiological studies suggest that dietary omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) may protect against prevalence of dry eye. This work aimed to evaluate whether a dietary deficiency in omega-3 PUFAs may increase the severity of dry eye in a scopolamine-induced rat model. Methods:Three consecutive generations of Lewis rats were bred under diets deprived of omega-3 PUFAs. Dry eye was experimentally induced by continuous scopolamine delivery in female animals from the third deficient generation and in female Lewis rats fed for three generations with a balanced diet. After 14 days of treatment, the clinical signs of ocular dryness were evaluated in vivo us…
Carotid ultrasound is useful for the cardiovascular risk stratification in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa.
2018
INTRODUCTION: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory cutaneous disease which has been associated with an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes. Adequate stratification of the CV risk is an issue of major importance in patients with HS. To analyze the usefulness of carotid ultrasound (US) assessment for the CV disease risk stratification compared with a traditional score, the Framingham risk score (FRS), in a series of patients with HS. METHODS: Cross-sectional study of 60 patients with HS without history of CV events, diabetes mellitus or chronic kidney disease. Information on CV risk factors was collected and the FRS was calculated. Thus, the patients were…
MECHANISMS OF TENSION DEVELOPMENT INDUCED BY MONENSIN IN GUINEA-PIG AORTA : EFFECTS OF VERAPAMIL, OUABAIN, PRAZOSIN AND GLIBENCLAMIDE
1993
The influence of monensin (10 µmol/L) alone and in the presence of verapamil (3 µmol/L) or ouabain (1 mmol) and prazosin (1 µmol/L) or glibenclamide (10 µmol/L) were studied on the muscle tension of guinea pig aorta. Changes in tissue sodium, potassium and calcium ion contents of the aortic muscle produced by monensin in the presence of prazosin were evaluated. Monensin in normal Tyrode's solution containing prazosin caused an increase in the resting tension followed by a decrease and returned to normal values. Verapamil reduced the muscle tension induced by monensin. After ouabain, monensin induced sustained increase in the resting tension. Glibenclamide partially reversed the relaxant pha…

Intraoral soft tissue lipomas: clinicopathological features from 91 cases diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology service.
2020
Background intraoral soft tissue lipomas are relatively uncommon mesenchymal neoplasms. Few papers have been published comparing the clinicopathological features of these tumors in different populations. The aim of the present study was to analyze the clinicopathological features from intraoral soft tissue lipomas diagnosed in a Brazilian population. Material and Methods all cases diagnosed as intraoral soft tissue lipomas in an Oral Pathology laboratory from 2005 to 2019 were retrieved and descriptively analyzed; statistical analysis was performed for comparison of the clinical and demographic parameters. Results 91 intraoral lipomas were retrieved, including 56 lipomas, 30 fibrolipomas, 2…
