Epidemiological observations report an increase in fat consumption associated with low intake of n-3 relative to n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in women of childbearing age. However, the impact of these maternal feeding habits on cognitive function in the offspring is unknown. This study aims to investigate the impact of early exposure to a high-fat diet (HFD) with an unbalanced n-6/n-3 PUFAs ratio on hippocampal function in adult rats. Age-related changes in cholesterol metabolism in macrosomic offspring of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.

The aim of this study was to determine the impact of diabetic macrosomia on cholesterol and lipoprotein metabolism. Age-related changes in the activities of serum LCAT, hepatic HMG-CoA reductase, cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase, and ACAT, the major enzymes involved in cholesterol metabolism, were determined in macrosomic offspring of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Hepatic, serum, and lipoprotein cholesterol contents were also examined. Transient receptor potential-vanilloid type-1 (TRPV1) is a ligand-gated cation channel with preference for divalent cations, especially Ca(2+) (sequence of conductances: Ca(2+)Mg(2+)Na(+) approximately/= K(+) approximately/= Cs(+)). In the present study, the two-electrode voltage-clamp technique was used on oocytes of Xenopus laevis expressing TRPV1 to evaluate whether human TRPV1 also conducts protons. ABSTRACT Background The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze toxicity profile and activity of an all-oral combination schedule of Capecitabine (Cape) and Vinorelbine (VNR) in metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients (pts). Methods All pts treated had a histological confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer (BC). Each 3-week cycle of treatment consisted of 500 mg/m2 cape twice daily (2 weeks on, 1 week off), and 60 mg/m2 VNR on days 1 and 8. Results From June'07 to December'11 we analyzed 77 MBC pts. Breakdown of choline-containing phospholipids in rat brain during severe weight loss.

Recent investigations in human anorectic patients indicated changes of brain choline metabolism. We used starved rats to investigate possible changes of brain choline metabolites during severe weight loss. Reductions of body weight by 15, 30 and 45% resulted in significant decreases of cerebral phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin levels. Concomitantly, the brain tissue content of glycerophosphocholine was increased while phosphocholine and free choline were unchanged. We conclude that severe weight loss is accompanied by phospholipase activation and breakdown of choline-containing phospholipids in the brain.
