Presacral Myelolipoma
2014
Many reports have described adrenal myelolipomas but there have been only a few reports of extra-adrenal myelolipomas. We describe a 74-year-old woman who came to our observation for MRI of the lumbar spine for typical lumbar back pain. In addition to signs of mild scoliosis and spondylo disc arthrosis, MR imaging revealed a presacral mass showing a heterogeneously high signal in all pulse sequences and almost completely suppressed on inversion recovery sequences for fat tissue. CT imaging confirmed the fatty nature of the lesion and no signs of bone involvement. These findings were most consistent with a diagnosis of a rare presacral myelolipoma as confirmed at histopathologic analysis. T…
Gigantic tongue lipoma : a case report
2006
Lipomas are among the most common tumors of the human body. However, they are uncommon in the oral cavity. In the oral cavity they present as a slow growing, painless, and assymptomatic yellowish submucosal mass. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice with recurrence not expected. They have been known to grow to large sizes causing mastication and speech difficulties. The usual lesions consist of a well circumscribed, lobulated mass of mature fat cells. In other situations the covering mucosa becomes ulcerated and presents difficulties in diagnosis. The present report is of a patient who presented with a gigantic lipoma on the tip of the tongue which had been present for 3 years. She …

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2010-03-01 Lipomas are benign mesenchymal neoplasms of soft tissue that can be found in any part of the human body. Conversely, their presence in the oral mucosa is rather uncommon, with approximately 4% of the cases occurring in the oral cavity. In such cases, th…
Intraoral lipomas: A clinicopathological study of 43 cases, including four cases of spindle cell/pleomorphic subtype
2018
Background The aim of this study was to describe the clinicopathological characteristics of 43 intraoral lipomas and classify them according to their microscopic variants. Material and Methods All the cases of intraoral lipomas diagnosed at an Oral Pathology service were selected for the study. Clinical data, such as age, gender, location, time of evolution, clinical presentation, clinical hypothesis of diagnosis, and treatment, were collected from the clinical files. Results Of the 43 cases analyzed, 24 (55.8%) occurred in women. The mean age was 77.4 years. The most affected site was the buccal mucosa (22 cases, 51.1%). The mean lesion size was 1.7 cm. Twenty-three cases (53.5%) were clas…
Large intraoral spindle cell lipoma
2021
Lipomas are relatively common benign neoplasms composed by mature fat cells. Apart from conventional lipomas, several other subtypes have been described in the oral cavity, including fibrolipoma, myxoid lipoma, angiolipoma, myolipoma, chondrolipoma, osteolipoma and spindle cell lipoma (SCL). Intraoral SCL is rare, representing from 1.4% to 9.8% of all intraoral lipomas. The aim of the present study is to report a case of a large intraoral SCL of the buccal mucosa affecting a 46-year-old male, calling attention to its clinical and histological features and to its successfull surgical conservative management. Key words:Lipoma, spindle cell, oral, buccal mucosa.
Nonepithelial skin tumors with multinucleated giant cells
2013
Recognition of the different types of multinucleated giant cells in neoplastic and pseudotumoral lesions of the skin may be helpful in the differential diagnosis of these tumors. In this review, we will analyze the different types of multinucleated giant cells that can be found in nonepithelial cutaneous tumors and, more importantly, the clinicopathological context in which they are found. Touton giant cells are typically present in juvenile xanthogranuloma, necrobiotic xanthogranuloma, and some subtypes of xanthomas. Giant cells with a ground glass appearance are typically present in the solitary reticulohistiocytoma and multicentric reticulohistiocytosis. Osteoclast-like cells are found i…
Follicular adenoma in ectopic thyroid. A case-report
2017
Highlights • Ectopic thyroid is thyroidal tissue located far from its anatomic place. • A patient under our observation displayed left submandibular swelling. • The FNAC test report described a follicular adenoma. • Based on the FNAC diagnosis, we surgically removed the mass. • The post-operative follow-up was uneventful.
"Osteolipoma of buccal mucosa: Case report and literature review"
2016
Osteolipoma affecting oral cavity is indeed rare. We hereby report a case of osteolipoma affecting buccal mucosa. A review of literature of osteolipoma of oral cavity, particularly on radiographic/imaging findings was done. Only 16 cases of Osteolipoma of oral cavity are reported in the literature. The radiographic findings of our case, i.e. multiple dense homogenous radio-opaque structures was reported earlier only in one case [out of 16] of osteolipoma of oral cavity. Key words:Lipoma, osteolipoma, panoramic radiography, radio-opaque, radiography.
A CASE OF A PRESACRAL MYELOLIPOMA: IMAGING FINDINGS AND DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS CHECKLIST OF OTHER PRESACRAL MASSES
2013
PURPOSE: There have been many reports describing adrenal myelolipoma but there have been only few reports of extraadrenal myelolipoma. We describe a case of an elderly woman with lower back pain due to age-related spondyloarthrosis and mild discopathy with a presacral myelolipoma as incidental finding. We also discuss about common and uncommon imaging findings of other presacral masses. METHODS: A 74 years-old woman came to our observation to perform an MRI of the lumbar spine for typical lumbar back pain. MR imaging revealed, in addition to the signs of mild scoliosis and spondylo-disc-arthrosis, a presacral mass showing heterogeneously high signal in all sequences and almost completely su…
SEMEIOTICA NEURORADIOLOGICA E POSSIBILI DIAGNOSI DIFFERENZIALI DI UN RARO CASO DI MIELOLIPOMA PRESACRALE
2013
