The actin-based motility of intracellularListeria monocytogenesis not controlled by small GTP-binding proteins of the Rho- and Ras-subfamilies
1999
In this study, we analyzed whether the actin-based motility of intracellular Listeria monocytogenes is controlled by the small GTP-binding proteins of the Rho- and Ras-subfamilies. These signalling proteins are key regulatory elements in the control of actin dynamics and their activity is essential for the maintenance of most cellular microfilament structures. We used the Clostridium difficile toxins TcdB-10463 and TcdB-1470 to specifically inactivate these GTP-binding proteins. Treatment of eukaryotic cells with either of these toxins led to a dramatic breakdown of the normal actin cytoskeleton, but did not abrogate the invasion of epithelial cells by L. monocytogenes and had no effect on …
The main cold shock protein of Listeria monocytogenes belongs to the family of ferritin-like proteins
2000
The transfer of the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes from 30 to 5 degrees C was characterized by the sharp induction of a low molecular mass protein. This major cold shock protein has an isoelectric point at pH 5.1 and a molecular mass of about 18 kDa, as observed on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) pattern. Its N-terminal sequence, obtained from the 2-DE spot, shared a complete sequence identity with a Listeria innocua non-heme iron-binding ferritin. The purification of these ferritin-like proteins (Flp) revealed a native molecular mass of about 100-110 kDa which indicates a polypeptide composed of six 18 kDa-subunits. Northern analysis indicated the presence of a 0.8-k…
Enabling Backoff and Eliminating Redundant Idle Period for Medium Access in LTE-U
2017
To address the burgeoning demand for mobile data, 3GPP is actively studying the capability of operating LTE in the unlicensed band, referred to as LTE-U. One of the main challenges of this approach is to maintain better coexistence between WiFi and LTE-U devices. To enable the coexistence, the listen before talk (LBT) principle has been adopted for LTE-U medium access with two flavors of mechanisms, i.e., load based equipment (LBE) and frame based equipment (FBE) access. In this paper, we consider the FBE mechanism and enhance its performance by introducing a backoff procedure for LTE devices. We investigate the original FBE mechanism defined by 3GPP and the enhanced FBE (E- FBE) mechanism fr…
Entryism in the British Labour Party, 1920- 1992
2022
This work aims at studying entryism in the context of the revolutionary socialist left in Britain, from the inception of the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1920 to the departure of Militant, the largest entryist organisation of the Kingdom, from the Labour Party in 1992.Entryism, which is often at the heart of political myths, is a tactic of penetration of a political party by another, aiming at accomplishing objectives, the nature of which can change depending on the type of entry. The intention of this study is to show to what extent there is not one type of entryism but several ones. The adopted methodology is chronological. The first part is dedicated to the relationship between the…
LaXp180, a mammalian ActA-binding protein, identified with the yeast two-hybrid system, co-localizes with intracellular Listeria monocytogenes
2001
The Listeria monocytogenes surface protein ActA is an important virulence factor required for listerial intracellular movement by inducing actin polymerization. The only host cell protein known that directly interacts with ActA is the phosphoprotein VASP, which binds to the central proline-rich repeat region of ActA. To identify additional ActA-binding proteins, we applied the yeast two-hybrid system to search for mouse proteins that interact with ActA. A mouse cDNA library was screened for ActA-interacting proteins (AIPs) using ActA from strain L. monocytogenes EGD as bait. Three different AIPs were identified, one of which was identical to the human protein LaXp180 (also called CC1). Bind…
Aktywizowanie rozwoju sprawności słuchania w języku polskim jako ojczystym
2020
The aim of the present article is to present the typology of listening comprehension skills activated during Polish language lessons. What the author claims is that in Polish school two types of listening co-exist, namely: natural and activated. The former resembles conditions of natural communication, since a student assumes the role of text recipient, whereas the latter is a process of teaching the skills of listening comprehension. Based on questions and instructions elicited from selected school handbooks shows in what way the activated type of listening comprehension is taught as a part of Polish as a mother tongue lessons.
Washback factors and inference predictors in the Spanish University Examination: The OPENPAU Project (FFI2011-22442)
2012
Background: University Entrance Examinations provide information the student?s opportunities to succeed in their academic university career. However, the current foreign language paper of the Spanish University Entrance Examination does no permit to obtain enough evidence to make academic inferences. Purpose of Study: The purpose of this study was to determine if the new test would serve for these objectives according to the students? needs and expected use of the language. Sources of Evidence: Based on Chapelle (2007) and García Laborda (2010). Analysis and results: Primary findings indicate that the test requires a deep revision in the test items, task typology and, overall, the test defi…
« Mouvement est nécessité » Pour une relation au monde du mouvement et de la musique
2021
Starting from a stationary state in order to feed a process, the idea of movement in music can affect both the sound material and the listening (the Hoerspiel...), both the view (musical theater) and the ancillary disciplines (dance or maping-video)... Based on examples taken in the 20th and 21st centuries (Debussy, Berg, Webern, Stravinsky, Stockhausen, Kagel, Ferrari, La Monte Young, Xenakis, Adams, De Chizy, De Mey, Trapani?), musicological study ultimately deduces that the metaphor of movement is for man an experience considered fundamental to his particular relationship to the world.
Le solo imprévu : l?atelier d?improvisation comme lieu d?échanges entre cultures d?audition
2021
Starting from sociologist Anne-Marie Green?s idea of ?common space?, and from Hans Robert Hauss? reception theory, the improvisation workshop is thought to be a way of transforming the practices of reception, in order to modify the nature of the culture of listening of each listener. Four research axis are, then, proposed, from the validation of the personal experience of the participants to the reception of the instant?s surprise as a factor of education, including the research of communicational tools specific to reception of music, capable of captivating the listeners with the original aspects of the unknown musical territories.
