Rural livelihood diversification: a solution for poverty in the post‐Soviet rural Baltic states?
2019
This article analyses rural livelihood diversification through a longitudinal follow‐up survey, that targets former collective farm workers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It argues, that between 1995 and 2010 the former collective farm workers employed three distinct livelihood diversification strategies in order to create their living. A wage‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not include any agricultural practices, was more common among the better‐off households. A farm‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not rely on salaries, was more often employed by the poor. A mixed strategy, that combines both wage income and farm activities, was used by both …
Finansinis stabilumas ir koncentracija: besivystančios Europos tyrimas
2016

One of the main results of this study is, in our opinion, the co-operation and the opportunities the intensive course afforded the students in developing skills to work together with different …
An Attempt at Drawing an Artistic Family Tree
2021
In this chapter, the directors included in the book themselves take the floor. They reveal the major influences they have experienced as artists and, if they had to draw an artistic family tree, whom they would include on it. One of them, Krystian Lupa, has literally drawn his artistic family tree. The directors also outline the trends that have had the most formative impact on their aesthetics and work. All this is especially shared for the readers of this book. Only in the case of the late Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrosius is an excerpt of an existing interview used.

On the relation between present and future tense in Lithuanian: Preliminary considerations in the domain of non-deictic tense use
2021
The article examines non-deictic uses of present and future tense in Lithuanian. Narrative use, in which reference intervals match with singular events, is distinguished from suspended propositions characterized by lack of such reference intervals (habitual, dispositional and circumstantial modal, and conditional meanings). Present tense is frequently involved in both usage domains, while the future is rare in narrative use, but overlaps with present tense in certain types of suspended propositions. Moreover, its temporal-deictic use is inherently associated with suspended propositions and “linked” to them via epistemic implicatures. This, in contrast to the present, makes the future more l…
