Materiell handlekraft og økokritiske perspektiver i Markens grøde

2019

Masteroppgave nordisk språk og litteratur NO500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 The Nobel-Prizewinning novel Markens Grøde (The Soil of the Earth) (1917) by Knut Hamsun has receivednew critical attention in light of the current climate crisis and the transition to the geological epoch of Anthropocene. In this paper I ask the question: What (if any)new relevancedoes the novel receivein light of our current environmental challenges?MY method to answer this question is two-folded. First I analyze language and the narrative position in the novel, and second I analyze the actor-network (ANT)with a particular perspective on material agency or «thing-power»in the novels narrative. I then address the n…

2020

Master's thesis in Nordic languages and literature (NO500) The modern society have its foundations in structures as economy, politics and welfare. Language is one of those as well. Language is not only a medium for communication but can be understood and studied as a social phenomenon. With this premise in mind I explore the role of language in society and how language and society influence one another both in theory and in practice, by examining the linguistic situation of Norway. Norway constitutes a unique case in the international panorama. The debate about language has begun in the end of the eighteenth century and has been a long-lasting interest for people and decision-makers. Moreov…

2017

2020

Master's thesis in Advanced teacher education level 8-13 (NO505) In this thesis, I have examined fathers and fatherhood in Sigrid Undset’s trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter (1920-22). The aim of the study has been to make an examination of the extent of the themes of fatherhood in the trilogy. The most central aspect in the survey is the literary analyses of the various fathers. The analytical work is based upon a wide sample of fathers. In addition, the thesis includes four parameters of care and consideration by which the fathers have been analysed. Based on these parameters, the concepts of care and consideration can be operationalized in the literary analyses. This also makes it possible to…

2020

Master's thesis in Advanced teacher education level 8-13 (NO505) The topics for this thesis are gender and power. I willdo a literary analysis of Vigdis Hjorths Hjulskift and Therese Bohmans Aftonland. I wish to focus on the protagonists, powerful career women who represent the cultural middle class, and their orientation in a world colored by patriarchal values. This research is based on the topic of feminism and has its theoretical base in Judith Butlers Bodies that matter and Pierre Bourdieus M…

The goal has been to put the differences and similarities between the novels portrayal of religion, mental illnesses, and man’s search for a sense of belonging and acceptance, on display.
