An environmental study by factor analysis of surface seawaters in the Gulf of Valencia (Western Mediterranean)

Abstract A study is made on the quality of coastal waters in the Gulf of Valencia (Spain) in terms of contamination markers including microbiological agents, toxic heavy metals and nutrients that adversely affect the environment. Relationships are also established between these factors and other physical and chemical parameters. Response of a shallow Mediterranean lake to nutrient diversion: does it follow similar patterns as in northern shallow lakes?

Summary 1. In view of the paucity of data on the response of warm shallow lakes to reductions in nutrient loading, this paper presents a long-term limnological data set to document changes in the food-web of a shallow Mediterranean lake (Lake Albufera, Valencia, Spain) that has experienced reductions in phosphorus (P) (77%) and nitrogen (N) (24%) loading following sewage diversion. 2. Nine years after sewage diversion, P concentration in the lake was reduced by 30% but remained high (TP = 0.34 mg L−1), although the mean water retention time in the lake was only 0.1 years. <p><em>The objective of this research was to know the structure, composition, potency of mangrove tree and also exploitation of mangrove observation type in Isenebuai Village District Rumberpon Teluk Wondama. Vegetation observation was conducted using line and plot method and the interview technique flourish structure. Antifeedant activity of neo-clerodane diterpenoids from Teucrium fruticans and derivatives of fruticolone

The antifeedant activity of three neo-clerodane diterpenoids, fruticolone, isofruticolone and fruticolide from Teucrium fruticans was assessed using larvae of Spodoptera littoralis. Isofruticolone was one of the most potent of the Teucrium derived neo-clerodanes. Chemical modification of functional groups on fruticolone showed that its activity could be enhanced.
A screening of five Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3A proteins for their activity against lepidopteran pests

Five Bacillus thuringiensis Vip3A proteins (Vip3Aa, Vip3Ab, Vip3Ad, Vip3Ae and Vip3Af) and their corresponding trypsin-activated toxins were tested for their toxicity against eight lepidopteran pests: Agrotis ipsilon, Helicoverpa armigera, Mamestra brassicae, Spodoptera exigua, Spodoptera frugiperda, Spodoptera littoralis, Ostrinia nubilalis and Lobesia botrana. Toxicity was first tested at a high dose at 7 and 10. days. No major differences were found when comparing protoxins vs. trypsin-activated toxins. Lagunillo del Tejo is a small doline lake in a karstic region of the Iberian Ranges (central-eastern Spain) that undergoes significant lake level fluctuation in response to changing aquifer influxes. In order to assess changes in the primary producer community in the lake over the last two centuries and to elucidate whether these were conditioned by climatic variability, photosynthetic pigments and their derivatives were extracted from the sediments and the data analysed using multivariate statistical techniques. The transfer of peat organic matter (OM) from tidal pools of upper littoral to downstream rocky shores and its potential incorporation into marine biota were investigated using the stable isotope approach. Samplings were carried out in September 2004 in two SW Icelandic sites (Osar and Hvassahraun), where we selected (1) areas with shores where grass gently declined towards rocks and, on reaching the sea line, formed small tidal peat pools and (2) areas where grass and rocky shores were not contiguous, rather the grass lower limits were several hundreds of meters back from the shore.
