OGLE-2008-BLG-510: first automated real-time detection of a weak microlensing anomaly - brown dwarf or stellar binary?

The microlensing event OGLE-2008-BLG-510 is characterized by an evident asymmetric shape of the peak, promptly detected by the Automated Robotic Terrestrial Exoplanet Microlensing Search (ARTEMiS) system in real time. The skewness of the light curve appears to be compatible both with binary-lens and binary-source models, including the possibility that the lens system consists of an M dwarf orbited by a brown dwarf. Nevertheless, the satisfaction levels derived from using a competency needs more investigation. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework for identifying hard competencies and their satisfaction levels. X-ray flare modeling in the single giant HR 9024

We analyze a Chandra-HETGS observation of the single G-type giant HR 9024. The high flux allows us to examine spectral line and continuum diagnostics at high temporal resolution, to derive plasma parameters (thermal distribution, abundances, temperature, ...). A time-dependent 1D hydrodynamic loop model with semi-length 10$^{12}$cm ($\sim R_{\star}$), and impulsive footpoint heating triggering the flare, satisfactorily reproduces the observed evolution of temperature and emission measure, derived from the analysis of the strong continuum emission. Hydrophobins play an important role in binding and assembly of fungal surface structures as well as in medium-air interactions. These, hydrophobic properties provide interesting possibilities when purification of macromolecules is concerned. In aqueous micellar two-phase systems, based on surfactants, the water soluble hydrophobins are concentrated inside micellar structures and, thus, distributed to defined aqueous phases. Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena on muodostaa kuvaus Willard Van Orman Quinen (1908–2000) filosofiseen järjestelmään sisältyvän totuuskäsityksestä. Quine käsittelee totuuden luonnetta lukuisissa teoksissaan systemaattisesti läpi pitkän uransa ajan. Tästä huolimatta hänen totuuskäsitystään ei ole tutkittu muutamia yksittäisiä artikkeleita lukuun ottamatta. Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena on täyttää tätä olemassa olevaa aukkoa suhteellisen laajassa Quinen filosofista järjestelmää käsittelevässä tutkimuskentässä.
