A new approach to predict the fish fillet shelf-life in presence of natural preservative agents

Three data sets concerning the behaviour of spoilage flora of fillets treated with natural preservative substances (NPS) were used to construct a new kind of mathematical predictive model. This model, unlike other ones, allows expressing the antibacterial effect of the NPS separately from the prediction of the growth rate. This approach, based on the introduction of a parameter into the predictive primary model, produced a good fitting of observed data and allowed characterising quantitatively the increase of shelf-life of fillets.

Forming pressure dependence of the ferroelectric domain structure in green barium titanate pellets

Abstract Modifications of the X-ray diffraction line profiles by die pressing of fine grained powders of barium titanate have been studied. Two main parameters have been considered: the forming pressure and the mechanical characteristics of the binder. The higher the forming pressure, the greater the modifications of the line profiles. Furthermore, the phenomena seems to be related to pressing only; no significant effect related to the nature of the binder has been shown. Suppose that Fλ, Mλ and Xλ are definable in an o-minimal structure and that all leaves of Fλ are closed. Given a definable family Ωλ of differential p-forms satisfaying iZ Ωλ = 0 forany vector field Z tangent to Fλ, we prove that there exists a constant A > 0 such that the integral of on any transversal of Fλ intersecting each leaf in at most one point is bounded by A. We apply this result to prove that p-volumes of transverse sections of Fλ are uniformly bounded.

Traces of weighted function spaces: dyadic norms and Whitney extensions

The trace spaces of Sobolev spaces and related fractional smoothness spaces have been an active area of research since the work of Nikolskii, Aronszajn, Slobodetskii, Babich and Gagliardo among others in the 1950's. In this paper we review the literature concerning such results for a variety of weighted smoothness spaces. For this purpose, we present a characterization of the trace spaces (of fractional order of smoothness), based on integral averages on dyadic cubes, which is well adapted to extending functions using the Whitney extension operator.
