Degradation of dimeric lignin model compounds by aerobic bacteria isolated from the hindgut of xylophagous termites.

1997

The capability of the intestinal flora from the gut of xylophagous termites of degrading lignin model compounds was investigated. Different dimeric lignin model compounds-degrading bacteria were obtained from the hindgut flora of Mastotermes darwiniensis FROGGATT, Reticulitermes santonensis FEYTAUD, Nasutitermes nigriceps HALDEMAN and Zootermopsis angusticollis HAGEN. In the presence of oxygen dimeric model compounds were degraded by all isolates. This indicates that the hindgut flora of termites is basically able to produce substrate for their host from aromatic extractives of wood.

TESTING SIMILARITY COEFFICIENTS FOR ANALYSIS OF THE FOSSIL RECORD USING CLUSTERING METHODS: THE PALAEOZOIC FLORA AS A STUDY CASE

2020

This paper reports a global methodological approach based on the similarity and clustering methods of the Palaeozoic plant fossil record using a comparative approach between two similarity measures: the Jacard and Raup-Crick Coefficients. The results show that although the Raup-Crick Coefficients clearly have the potential for providing more robust results, the consequences of the extinction processes are better reflected in the similarity analysis based on the Jaccard Coefficients. On the other hand, the cluster analysis based on UPGMA algorithm shows four robust clusters and reveals new evidence for the singularity of Mississippian flora. Finally, the results obtained reveal that similari…

A report on the conservation status of segetal weeds in Tajikistan

2014

Summary Intensification of agriculture has significantly diminished the populations of segetal weeds worldwide in recent decades. Remarkable changes to the entire flora and vegetation of man-made habitats are being observed in agroecosystems. The present study analyses, for the first time, the threat status of segetal weeds in Tajikistan. A group of 871 weed species were evaluated against IUCN criteria. The assessment of threat status revealed that 214 weed taxa have to be regarded as threatened in Tajikistan, including 18 endemic and four subendemic plants. Five species have been classified as extinct, 27 as critically endangered, 27 as endangered, 39 as vulnerable, 34 as near threatened a…

Profil Tempat Tumbuh Sarang Semut (Myrmecodia spp.) Di Distrik Manokwari Selatan Papua Barat

2019

Papua has a very high diversity of flora species, one of which is a type of Sarang Semut. Different growing conditions will affect the level of diversity of plants. For that information about the place to grow Ant Plant is needed as basic information for the development of the cultivation of Ant plants. The method used is descriptive method with field observation technique. The results showed that the type of ant nest plant found in South Manokwari was a type of Myrmecodia pendans and Myrmecodia cf. schlechteri. Both of these species do not grow evenly in all study locations even at the same height, this plant has a characteristic growing place: it grows on host trees that are not slippery,…

Exploring natural products-based cancer therapeutics derived from egyptian flora

2020

Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance Egyptian plants are a rich source of natural molecules, representing considerable biodiversity due to climate variations between the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western regions of the country. Sinai is considered a precious nature reserves preserving flora, fauna, marine organisms, and historical habitats with ancient origins. Here, traditional medicinal approaches have been used for hundreds of years. Healthy lifestyles, low levels of stress and microbial infections, and a dependence on flora and herbal medicine might in combination explain why the burden of cancer is lower in some regions than in others. Aim of the study The primary aim of this …

Additions to the vascular flora of central Italy. Second contribution

2018

In this paper, new floristic records for 55 taxa for central Italy are reported. In particular, 39 taxa are native and 16 aliens, 9 are new or confirmed to Abruzzo, 1 to Marche, 21 to Molise, 16 to Umbria, 1 is excluded from the flora of Abruzzo, 1 from Molise and 1 from Lazio. Furthermore, new distribution data for 2 rare species in Abruzzo and Molise are reported.
