Policy-based channel access mechanism selection for QoS provision in IEEE 802.11e

The appearance of the 802.11e standard made the 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLANs) capable of providing different levels of quality of service (QoS). This standard defines two new channel access mechanisms (CAMs), namely the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) and the HCF controlled channel access (HCCA). ABSTRACT A model for the dynamic management of the tool set of an FMS workstation is developed. The proposed approach processing the on-line recorded tool failure data updates the estimate of the parameters of the probability density functions of tool life and selects, at the occurence of each failure, the code of the tool to be allocated in the workstation storage devices in order to maximize its reliability over a planned horizon.

In this article, an approach based on an array of macro-fiber composite (MFC) transducers arranged as rosettes is proposed for high-velocity impact location on isotropic and composite aircraft panels. Each rosette, using the directivity behavior of three MFC sensors, provides the direction of an incoming wave generated by the impact source as a principal strain angle. A minimum of two rosettes is sufficient to determine the impact location by intersecting the wave directions. Changes in fish communities due to benthic habitat shifts under ocean acidification conditions

Ocean acidification will likely change the structure and function of coastal marine ecosystems over coming decades. Volcanic carbon dioxide seeps generate dissolved CO2 and pH gradients that provide realistic insights into the direction and magnitude of these changes. Here, we used fish and benthic community surveys to assess the spatio-temporal dynamics of fish community properties off CO2 seeps in Japan. Microclimatic Alteration after Logging Affects the Growth of the Endangered Lichen Lobaria pulmonaria

Microclimatic conditions are important in determining lichen distribution at small scale, and may determine whether the species persist when the surrounding environmental conditions have drastically changed. This is the case with forest management, since a sudden variation of microclimatic conditions (increase of solar radiation, temperature, wind and a reduction of humidity) may occur after logging. In this study, the combined effect of forest logging and microclimatic conditions on the growth probabilities and growth rates of the model species Lobaria pulmonaria was assessed in mixed oak stands. Metagenomics Reveals Planktonic Bacterial Community Shifts across a Natural CO2 Gradient in the Mediterranean Sea

ABSTRACT Bacterial communities at a CO 2 vent (pH 6.7) were compared with those at control (pH 8.0) and transition sites (pH 7.6) using 16S rRNA metagenomics. Firmicutes and unclassified bacteria dominated across all sites, Proteobacteria , especially Gammaproteobacteria , declined, and Epsilonproteobacteria increased in the vent with an increase in Bacteroidetes at both the vent and transition sites.
