Revision of the pentacrinid stalked crinoids of the genus Endoxocrinus (Echinodermata, Crinoidea), with a study of environmental control of character…

2006

A revision of the stalked crinoid species attributed to the genus Endoxocrinus A.H. Clark, 1908 (Diplocrininae, Pentacrinitidae, Crinoidea, Echinodermata) is conducted using studies on phenotype variation and its relation with environment. Specimens collected via submersible at five sites in the Bahamas exhibit distinct phenotypes that correlate with different apparent ecological niches and serve as references for interpreting specimens dredged in Atlantic and Pacific Oceans where detailed information on their benthic environment is unknown. Documentation of ecophenotypic convergences or divergences allows us to distinguish between adaptive characters and those revealing genetic affinities,…

Dioscuri spartani, Dioscuri beotici: alcune testimonianze iconografiche

2017

The paper discusses an iconographic type recorded on a series of pinakes from the Mannella sanctuary at Locri Epizephyrii portraying two young horsemen (one has a lyra, the other a kantharos) in front of a female figure. This is thought to be the variant of a more common type representing the Spartan Dioskouroi with a shield and phiale. The attributes of the horsemen (kantharos and lyra), unusual for the Tyndaridai, have been interpreted as a reference to the educational value of music and symposia relating to the male element within the context of wedding rituals held in the sanctuary. The lyra, however, may not be a simple element to enrich the meaning of the image, but rather an attribut…

Which Dioskouroi? On some Locrian pinakes with music-themed iconography

2016

The paper considers an iconographic type attested to in a series of Locrian pinakes, showing twins on horseback (one of which has a lyra eptacorde, the other a kantharos) in front of a female figure (type 8/35: ASMG S. IV, III, 5, fig. 34); this is considered a variant of a more common type with the Dioscuri on horseback with shield and phiale accompanied by a woman (Elena, Aphrodite or nubenda?). Without prejudice to the identity of the pair of twins, it was found that the variant would intend to emphasize a particular aspect of the male world personified by the Spartan Dioscuroi, namely the paideutic role of music for the male party of the nuptial rituals (recently, summarized in A. Belli…

Influence de différentes pratiques agricoles sur la qualité et la santé des sols : étude de cas sur des vergers slovènes irrigués ou en agriculture b…

2011

Underestimation of soil properties and poor understanding of soil conditions can have many negative consequences, which results in quality or quantity of yield, soil degradation or even environmental pollution. According to importance of agricultural practices, our study focused on their impact on soil quality and health. The research took place from November 2003 to October 2007 in apple orchards in north-eastern Slovenia where two frequent agricultural practices were investigated: (i) drip irrigation on Calcaric Cambisol and its effects on structural stability and microbial biomass at Gačnik experimental station and (ii) combination of organic fertiliser (Campo guano) and liming in organi…
