IDENTIFICATION OF BACTERIAL TAXA IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL WATERLOGGED WOOD

2014

Summary The microscopic and molecular techniques described in this study are aimed at understanding the degradation processes of the anatomical structure of submerged archaeological wood, correlating it to the degradation induced by bacteria. The SEM micrographs showed alterations of the wooden structure due to bacterial colonization, as well as the presence of pyrite framboids. The difficulty of extracting bacterial DNA from wooden fragments belonging to submerged finds is well-known, due to the presence of many inhibitors; this study describes some extraction and in vitro amplification protocols for wooden submerged finds. The results of the molecular investigations, based on the analysis…

Child Well-Being in Times of Confinement: The Impact of Dialogic Literary Gatherings Transferred to Homes

2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unexpected situation that has forced people to find educational alternatives to support learning and ensure child well-being. The need for practices that 'open doors' at home as a way to promote a quality education and to foster an environment of supportive relationships and a sense of community, has led to the in-depth analysis of successful educational actions, particularly the Dialogic Literary Gatherings (DLGs). The aim of this article is to show how the transference of DLGs to the home environment has had an impact on child subjective well-being in times of confinement, promoting a safe and supportive environment for learning, interacting, coexistin…

Trajectory Analysis of Suicidal Ideation in Spanish College Students Using Ecological Momentary Assessment.

2022

IntroductionSuicide is a preventable death in young people. It is well known that suicide behavior is a multicausal phenomenon. However, suicidal ideation (SI) commonly underlies suicide, and Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) can help us to better characterize it and its risk and protective factors in the short term. We aimed, first, to investigate the estimated prevalence and trajectories of SI in a community sample of Spanish college students using an EMA methodology and, second, explore the associations between risk and protective factors and SI categorized as moderate or low.Materials and MethodsA total of 737 participants followed the EMA during a period of 6 months. We estimated t…

I Cannot Read Your Eye Expression: Suicide Attempters Have Difficulties in Interpreting Complex Social Emotions

2020

International audience; Background: The ability to differentiate emotions in social contexts is important for dealing with challenging social situations. Suicide attempters show some difficulties in emotion recognition that may result in hypersensitivity to social stress. However, other studies on the recognition of social complex emotions found that suicide attempters have similar performances as depressed non-attempters. Objectives: To investigate differences in social emotion recognition in patients with current Major Depressive Episode (MDE) with and without history of suicide attempt. Methods: Two hundred and ten patients with MDE were recruited among whom 115 had lifetime history of s…

Digitalisering i patologi : Hvilke faktorer mener patologer har størst betydning ved implementering av digital patologi?

2019

Masteroppgave helse- og sosialinformatikk HSI500 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 Diagnostic pathology is essential for diagnosing cancer and often also in guiding choice of treatment method. However many claim it has become a bottleneck within cancer treatment, due partly to the fact that the number of pathologists is not expanding in line with the increasing workload. Digital pathology (DP) is considered to be the solution for increased efficiency within the field of pathology. The implementation of health information systems is complex and involves technical, human and organisational aspects, and information systems of all types have consistently failed to deliver expected gains. In this study…
