Osservazioni preliminari sul germoplasma spontaneo di mirto (Myrtus communis L.) siciliano

Tra le specie presenti allo stato spontaneo della flora mediterranea, il mirto occupa una posizione di rilievo per le sue molteplici applicazioni nei settori alimentare, farmaceutico, cosmetico e vivaistico. Il Dipartimento A.A.T. dell'Università degli Studi di Palermo, in collaborazione con il Consorzio Co.Ri.S.S.I.A. di Palermo, ha avviato un programma di raccolta e valutazione di germoplasma spontaneo di mirto. Nel 2006, sono state effettuate osservazioni preliminari su n. 9 biotipi di mirto collezionari in campo catalogo. Nel presente lavoro si riportano i primi risultati sulle caratteristiche feno-morfologiche e biometriche dei biotipi esaminati.

Abstract This article examines the role of the media in the EU freedom of movement debate through the lens of high-circulation German and UK newspapers during the first half of 2014. It explores how the media problematised migration from Eastern European member states and its influence on national host country labour markets and welfare systems. It also analyses how different media outlets positioned themselves in relation to relevant policies or policy proposals. The effect of ethanol (E) on the radial growth rate (mu) of food spoilage moulds (Aspergillus candidus, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Eurotium herbariorum, Mucor circinelloides, Mucor racemosus, Paecilomyces variotii, Penicillium chrysogenum, Penicillium digitatum, Rhizopus oryzae and Trichoderma harzianum) was assessed in Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium at a(w) 0.99, 25 degrees C. Aposematism in the burying beetle? Dual function of anal fluid in parental care and chemical defence

Burying beetles (Nicrophorus vespilloides) bear distinctive and variable orange-black patterning on their elytra and produce an anal exudate from their abdomen when threatened. During breeding, the anal exudates contribute to the antimicrobial defence of the breeding resource. We investigated whether the anal exudates also provide a responsive chemical defence, which is advertised to potential avian predators by the beetle’s orange and black elytral markings. We found that that the orange-black elytral markings of the burying beetle are highly conspicuous for avian predators against range of backgrounds, by using computer simulations. Colour alone matters : no predator generalization among morphs of an aposematic moth

Local warning colour polymorphism, frequently observed in aposematic organisms, is evolutionarily puzzling. This is because variation in aposematic signals is expected to be selected against due to predators' difficulties associating several signals with a given unprofitable prey. One possible explanation for the existence of such variation is predator generalization, which occurs when predators learn to avoid one form and consequently avoid other sufficiently similar forms, relaxing selection for monomorphic signals.
