Brain responses to speech sounds in infants and children with and without familial risk for dyslexia

Dyslexia, a specific reading disability, runs in families. Therefore, the risk for a child to become dyslexic increases multifold if reading difficulties occur in the family. One risk factor for dyslexia is a deficit in speech perception. Using EEG, speech sound discrimination was found to be more demanding than non- speech discrimination in typical readers in Study I. In Study II, in children with dyslexia in 3rd grade, enhanced brain responses were observed and found to be associated with better performance in reading accuracy, spelling accuracy and phonemic length discrimination tasks. This paper contributes by showing simultaneously the interlinked challenges of sustainability-based (based on long-term economic, social and environmental targets) executive remuneration and the problems of transparency in remuneration reporting. Our empirical data, analyzed using qualitative content analysis, consists of the published remuneration statements and sustainability reports of 43 Finnish companies reporting according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework. Considering the challenges of sustainable development and the mixed prescriptions being offered by the use of digital technologies, we present a data-driven narrative of how ICT development impacts the sustainable growth of economies. The analysis is based on historical panel data from 39 economies across the developed and developing economies. The industry-standard CRISP-DM methodology was applied as it is flexible, robust, and offers a practical approach for data analytics. The Affordances of Reading/Writing on Paper and Digitally in Finland

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of digital technologies on reading and writing in Finland. The perceived affordances of reading and writing on paper and digitally are compared by analysing written essays collected from 25 communication students in 2013. Research design is replicated from a study of Fortunati and Vincent that concerns Italian students. Results show that Finnish students perceive more positive than negative affordances regarding reading on paper, while reading on screen attracts fewer virtues.
