Predictors of live birth in women with a history of biochemical pregnancies after assisted reproduction treatment
2020
Abstract Objectives To ascertain whether women with a history of biochemical pregnancies (BPs) in in-vitro fertilization (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment cycles have decreased chances of live birth (LB); and (2) to build a predictive model for LB in this particular population of infertile women. Methods In order to achieve the first objective, data from 1536 women that had a LB using autologous fresh or frozen embryos, or dropped out of further IVF/ICSI treatments after completing one to three unsuccessful treatment cycles were retrospectively analyzed. A subpopulation of 90 women that experienced one or more BPs in our assisted reproduction unit were selected to buil…
Periodontal status and quality of life in pregnant women with both overweight/obesity and hypertension: a cross-sectional study
2021
Background The aim of this study was to assess the periodontal condition and quality of life of pregnant women affected with both overweight/obesity and arterial hypertension. Material and Methods Pregnant women were dived into three groups: with overweight/obesity and hypertension (G1 = 23), with overweight/obesity without hypertension (G2 = 31) and with normal BMI and without hypertension (G3 = 38). They were evaluated regarding: contextual variables (age, socioeconomic level and anthropometric parameters); periodontal status; and quality of life (adapted version of Oral Health Impact Profile – OHIP-14). ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, chi-square and binary logistic regression model were adopted (…
Análisis de la mortalidad evitable en los hospitales de la Comunidad Valenciana
2001
Using a list of avoidable mortality (AM) causes as indicators of medical care (IMC) according to the Holland classification, a study on AM was conducted in the Valencia Community hospitals during 1994 and 1995. A total of 617 patients out of 106,540 discharges with IMC criteria died (mortality rate: 0.58%). The most common causes of AM included hypertension and cerebrovascular disease, with 46% of avoidable deaths; maternalperinatal disease, with 36%, and tuberculosis, 7%. According to the logistic regression analysis, men had a higher risk of AM than women, the age groups at highest risk were those over 50 years and less than 18 years, and the presence of a higher number of diagnoses was a…
Predictors of increase in physical activity during a 6-month follow-up period among overweight and physically inactive healthy young adults
2015
Abstract Background/Objective The beneficial effects of physical activity (PA) are well known, but it remains challenging to increase PA among physically inactive and overweight young individuals. The present study aimed to examine how selected psychological and physical characteristics assessed at baseline predict the increase in total PA over a 6-month follow-up among 51 physically inactive and overweight adults (20 women, 31 men; age 26–40 years) who participated in a lifestyle counselling study without supervised PA sessions. Methods Baseline measurements included a questionnaire assessment of sense of coherence and psychological flexibility, heart rate monitoring-based stress/recovery …
Doctors’ acceptance of recommendations for patients with the opportunity for pharmacotherapy improvement
2011
Abstract Objective To identify and quantify the influence of different variables on the implementation of pharmacotherapy optimisation measures in hospitalised patients. Method Descriptive transversal study. Period: 2000–2007. Environment: public university general hospital (25,000 patients admitted/year). The Programme implemented to improve pharmacotherapy quality and patient safety covers 30% of all patients. Using records from the Atefarm ® Farmis application, we analysed pharmacotherapy recommendations (PRs) made by pharmacists to doctors. The selected variables were the following: Risk of the medication for ADE (1-high, 0-low), ADE category, (0-indication, 1-effectiveness, 2-safety), …
Five-year change in refractive error and its risk factors: results from the Gutenberg Health Study.
2021
Background/AimsTo examine the 5-year change in refractive error in phakic eyes and its risk factors in the general population.MethodsThe Gutenberg Health Study (GHS) is a population-based cohort study including 15 010 participants from Germany aged 35–74 years at baseline examination (2007–2012). After 5 years, a follow-up examination was carried out (83% participation). 5-year change of spherical equivalent (SE) was computed as difference between follow-up and baseline objective refraction. Linear and logistic regression analysis were conducted analysing potential risk factors. Only phakic eyes at follow-up examination were included.ResultsRight eyes of 10 175 subjects were included. An ag…
Forms of Bullying and Associations Between School Perceptions and Being Bullied Among Finnish Secondary School Students Aged 13 and 15
2019
AbstractThe study aimed to examine the extent to which Finnish secondary school students experience bullying, how they are bullied, and whether being bullied is associated with school perceptions. The analyses were based on data from the Finnish part of the international Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) study, and were obtained from 4262 students aged 13 and 15. The sample was nationally representative. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the associations between school perceptions and being bullied. Younger students reported being bullied more often than older students. Among younger students, boys were more often bullied than girls of the same age. There …
A decade of trials of interferon-alpha for chronic hepatitis C. A meta-regression analysis
2003
The most relevant randomized controlled trials of interferon-alpha (IFN) for naive patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) published in a decade, just before appearance of pegylated IFN trials in 2000, were included in this paper. Its purpose is to review the relationship between sustained biochemical response in active versus control group versus usual clinical variables as IFN regimens, cirrhosis, genotype and versus less frequently addressed variables as funding, methodological quality or location of principal author. Meta-analysis estimates of global treatment effect varied according to trial design: group 1=IFN versus placebo/no treatment, 32 RCTs, 2499 pts, OR 9.5 (6.3-14.2); group 2a…
Preoperatory Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery.
2019
Anxiety is a feeling of discomfort produced in face of an unknown event, as an impending cardiac surgery, that can lead to inconveniences in the intervention and subsequent recovery. Being the purpose of this research to analyze pre-surgical anxiety, a descriptive cross-sectional study among patients undergoing cardiac surgery was carried out. Data about sociodemographic variables were collected and the level of anxiety prior to surgery was assessed using the STAI-S scale. Subsequently, descriptive data analyses were performed, relationships among variables were analyzed, and a binary logistic regression model was developed in order to analyze the role of the variables involved in the devel…
Usefulness of the Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio as a Predictor of Pneumonia and Urinary Tract Infection Within the First Week After Acute Ischemic S…
2021
Background: A high Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) has been associated with post-stroke infections, but it's role as an early predictive biomarker for post-stroke pneumonia (PSP) and urinary tract infection (UTI) is not clear. Aim: To investigate the usefulness of NLR obtained within 24 h after AIS for predicting PSP and UTI in the first week. Methods: Clinical and laboratory data were retrieved from the University Hospital Brussels stroke database/electronic record system. Patients were divided into those who developed PSP or UTI within the first week after stroke onset and those who didn't. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves a…
