Dialectic Logos and Internal Critique. The Pre-Socratics and the Origins of Political Argument

The present essay makes the claim that political argumentation in the form of internal critique was already present in Pre-Socratic thought, specifically in Heraclitus’ dialectic conception of logos. This conception, which implies the human capacity of arguing for and identifying correct inferences, is valid in a contemporary context as well, and it underlies the idea of political life as an intersubjective condition of human existence.

El convento de San José en Valencia, construido junto al Portal Nuevo y la muralla entre 1609 y 1628, constituye una muestra destacable de la arquitectura clasicista desornamentada de procedencia castellana. La presencia de fray Ambrosio Mariano de San Benito, antiguo colaborador de Teresa de Jesús, en la fundación de los conventos de San José y de San Felipe Apóstol de Valencia, puede ser la clave de la introducción de tos modelos arquitectónicos de tos primeros conventos de la reforma carmetitana en Valencia. Se incluye el catálogo de las pinturas, esculturas y cerámicas que se conservaban en la iglesia. (A)

Human being exists in the flow of time and where there is interaction between time, space and energy there is some rhythm. Physical sciences tend to attribute to rhythm a mechanical overtone but phenomenology of life shows a rhythm in the context of logos and life. In questo capitolo rielaboro la distinzione, proposta da Danblon e Donckier, tra regimi di razionalità fondati sul logos o sul mythos, proponendo una interpretazione cognitiva della ‘interazione mostruosa’ di questi due regimi che, secondo le autrici, costituirebbe uno carattere di alcune forme di comunicazione contemporanea.

L'episodio racconta la visita degli ambasciatori greci alla corte di Gelone, tiranno di Siracusa, che giunsero in Sicilia per chiedere il suo aiuto contro l'imminente attacco dei persiani. The opposition between a rational and an irrational behavior or thought poses difficulties in understanding: what do we really mean by «irrational»? A behavior or a thought that adheres to emotions and does not arise from slow reflection can be considered irrational; on the other hand, can we state that emotional reactions and intuitions are «irrational»?
