Contractile Reserve in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction.
2022
Background: Diastolic stress echocardiography (SE) is useful for confirming the diagnosis of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (HFpEF) when it is uncertain. The aim of this study was to assess the value of new echocardiographic parameters during diastolic SE in patients with dyspnea and suspected HFpEF. Methods: Sixty-two patients with exertional dyspnea and inconclusive rest echocardiography for a diagnosis of HFpEF were enrolled. Exercise SE was performed in all patients. Contractile reserve (LVCR) was assessed by measuring: 1. changes in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) between rest and peak stress; 2. stress-to-rest ratio of force (force was de…
Obesity and Mental Health: A Longitudinal, Cross-Cultural Examination in Germany and China
2021
The present study examines the relationship between obesity and mental health using longitudinal data. Participants with data at baseline and one-year follow-up were included from two countries: Germany (364) and China (9007). A series of structural equation models with three mediators and one moderator were conducted separately for female and male students in Germany and China. Zero-order correlations indicated that overweight/obesity was significantly related to later depression and anxiety in Chinese males. Additional effects of obesity on later mental health flowed through effects on attractiveness (Chinese and German females, and Chinese males), physical health (Chinese males), and lif…
The Role of Perceived Social Support as a Contributor to the Successful Transition from Primary to Lower Secondary School
2019
Following approximately 1,800 Finnish children, this longitudinal study examined the associations between students’ perceived social support (teacher-student relationships, family support, and peer support), behavioral engagement, cynicism towards school, and academic achievement during the transition from primary to lower secondary school. After controlling for parental educational level and cynicism before the school transition, the results showed that the more students experienced pre-transition peer support, the less they reported post-transition cynicism. Furthermore, pre-transition peer support contributed to students’ increased academic achievement and behavioral engagement after the…
SUGGESTIONS OF SCENARIOS FOR RESTORING LONGITUDINAL CONNECTIVITY TO SUSTAIN FISH FAUNA MIGRATION UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM OF APAHIDA BOTTOM SILL
2016
Rivers and their corridors form complex ecosystems that include adjacent land, flora and fauna and the actual courses of water. Given the ecological criteria for prioritizing the rehabilitation of longitudinal continuity of watercourses recommended by the International Commission for Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) (Appendix 1) and starting from the analysis of the Management Plan to ensure longitudinal continuity of watercourses in Some?-Tisa River Area (Annex 9.17.a in BMP – Basin Management Plan) there have been proposed several scenarios in order to facilitate fish species migration above the bottom sill from Apahida. The selected case study is focused on the mentioned discharge …
Multidimensional prognostic index and the risk of fractures: an 8-year longitudinal cohort study in the Osteoarthritis Initiative
2021
Abstract Summary In this longitudinal study, with a follow-up of 8 years, multidimensional prognostic index (MPI), a product of the comprehensive geriatric assessment, significantly predicted the onset of fractures in older people affected by knee osteoarthritis. Purpose Frailty may be associated with higher fracture risk, but limited research has been carried out using a multidimensional approach to frailty assessment and diagnosis. The present research aimed to investigate whether the MPI, based on comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA), is associated with the risk of fractures in the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI) study. Methods Community-dwellers affected by knee OA or at high risk f…
Latvijas ģimenes paaudzēs, 2018
2019
Pētījums aptver visas vecuma grupas: gan jaunus cilvēkus patstāvīgās dzīves sākumā (no 18 gadu vecuma), gan pieredzes bagātus — citās vecuma grupās (līdz 79 gadu vecumam), sniedzot precīzu informāciju par cilvēka dzīves galvenajiem demogrāfiskajiem notikumiem un cikliem vairāku paaudžu dzīvē, sākot jau no 1950. gadu vidus.
Evaluating the impact of external job mobility on three health outcomes: a longitudinal study of the IDEWE cohort of Belgian workers
2022
There is large debate in the literature about the relationship between job mobility and health. This thesis contributes to this topic by estimating the impact of work mobility on either cardiovascular, musculoskeletal or neuropsychological diseases in a longitudinal study on a sample of Belgian workers followed-up for seven-years. The occurrence of such diseases was assessed through medication use as proxy. In the first part of this thesis, the focus was on CVD and MSD diseases. To this aim, a logistic regression model for autocorrelated data with repeated measures was applied (while controlling for the time-variant and time-invariant confounders). This longitudinal model was adequate to ta…
Children’s transitions in early childhood education and care : various combinations of dis-/continuities
2023
This longitudinal multiple case study explores children’s transitions within early childhood education and care (ECEC) in Finland. In ECEC children typically transition from one group or center to another. This study explores how physical, social and philosophical discontinuities and continuities constitute these transitions. Five focus children’s transitions were followed in and between separate ECEC centers. The data include interviews with parents and educators as well as observations noted. Fabian’s discontinuity division, which argues that transition consists of physical, social, and philosophical discontinuities, was used for content analysis of interviews as primary data. Interpretat…
Educational Inequalities and Their Impact on Social Mobility of the second generation: A Comparison of North Africans in France and the Second Genera…
2013
International audience; This paper aims to compare the educational outcomes of children of immigrants in France and in the US to understand the educational inequalities and opportunities for social mobility for the second generation in both countries. The comparison is focused on children from two groups: North Africans in France and Mexicans in the US. By using two longitudinal datasets, the French Educational Panel Survey and Add Health, we examine aspirations, expectations and attainment in secondary education in the two contexts. We explore in particular the role of parental education on attainment. We also utilize in-depth interviews to understand their educational experiences and thei…
