Determination of hydroquinone and metal in photographic developer by reversed-phase ion-pair chromatography with amperometric detection

Abstract Sodium 1-heptanesulphonate is used as an ion-pair reagent for the chromatographic separation of the two developing agents on a phenylsilica micro-column, with amperometric detection at an applied potential of + 0.75 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). No pretreatment of the developer is necessary. Linear calibration graphs were obtained in the range 10 −5 -1.5 × 10 −4 M.

Pauson-Khand reaction of internal dissymmetric trifluoromethyl alkynes. Influence of the alkene on the regioselectivity.

Abstract: The scope of the Pauson-Khand reaction (PKR) of internal trifluoromethyl alkynes, previously described with norbornadiene, is expanded to norbornene and ethylene. A thorough structural analysis of the resulting PK adducts has been carried out to unveil that α-trifluoromethylcyclopentenones are preferred in all cases, independently of the electronic properties of the alkyne. The regioselectivity observed with norbornadiene and ethylene is higher than in the case of norbornene.

Chelated η5-cyclopentadienyl-η-ethyl complexes of molybdenum and tungsten; molecular structure of W(η5-C5H4CH2-η-CH2)(CO)3

Abstract Molybdenum and tungsten complexes M(η5-C5H4CH2-η-CH2)(CO)3 (M=Mo, W) containing the bidentate ethyl-functionalized cyclopentadienyl ligand C5H4CH2CH2 have been synthesized by the reaction of spiro[2.4]hepta-4,6-diene with M(CO)3L3 (M=Mo; L3=1,3,5-C6H3Me3; M=W; L=NCMe). Reaction of the more stable tungsten complex with C6H5ICl2 and HBF4 gave complexes of the type W(η5-C5H4CH2CH2Cl)(CO)3Cl, W(η5-C5H4CH2CH3)(CO)3Cl and W(η5-C5H4CH2CH3)(CO)3(FBF3), respectively. The crystal structure of the tungsten tricarbonyl complex W(η5-C5H4CH2-η-CH2)(CO)3 has been determined by X-ray crystal diffraction on a single crystal and shows a four-legged piano stool structure.

The trimethylsilyl cyclopentadiene derivative C5H4(SiMe3)PPh2 (1) was treated with TiCl4 to give the air- and moisture-sensitive mono(cyclopentadienyl) compound Ti(η5-C5H4PPh2)Cl3 (4). Reaction of 4 with Mg(CH2C6H5)2(THF)2 gave Ti(η5-C5H4PPh2)(CH2C6H5)3 (5). Reactions of the lithium and thallium derivatives M{C5H4P(S)Ph2} (M=Li (2), Tl (3)) with one equiv. of TiCl4 afforded the mono(cyclopentadienyl) complex Ti{η5-C5H4P(S)Ph2}Cl3 (6), whereas reaction with 0.5 equiv. of TiCl4 gave the bis(cyclopentadienyl) complex Ti{η5-C5H4P(S)Ph2}2Cl2 (8). Measurement of the radiation energy in the radio signal of extensive air showers as a universal estimator of cosmic-ray energy

We measure the energy emitted by extensive air showers in the form of radio emission in the frequency range from 30 to 80 MHz. Exploiting the accurate energy scale of the Pierre Auger Observatory, we obtain a radiation energy of 15.8±0.7(stat)±6.7(syst) MeV for cosmic rays with an energy of 1 EeV arriving perpendicularly to a geomagnetic field of 0.24 G, scaling quadratically with the cosmic-ray energy. A comparison with predictions from state-of-the-art first-principles calculations shows agreement with our measurement. VCD studies on cyclic peptides assembled from L-α-amino acids and a trans-2-aminocyclopentane- or trans-2-aminocyclohexane carboxylic acid.

The increasing interest in peptidomimetics of biological relevance prompted us to synthesize a series of cyclic peptides comprising trans-2-aminocyclohexane carboxylic acid (Achc) or trans-2-aminocyclopentane carboxylic acid (Acpc). NMR experiments in combination with MD calculations were performed to investigate the three-dimensional structure of the cyclic peptides. These data were compared to the conformational information obtained by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy.
