Rett syndrome and eye-tracking technology: A brief review
2019
Introduction: Rett Syndrome is a severe, genetically based neurodevelopment disorder caused mostlyby mutations in the MECP2 gene on the X chromosome. One of the supportive criteria for the diagnosis of this syndrome is intense eye gaze with preferential eye fixation on social stimuli and especially on people’s eyes. This pattern of preferential looking has generally been considered a way to make requests and communicate. Materials and methods: In this review we have collected the studies on the use of eye-tracking technology with subjects with Rett Syndrome. The combination of keywords “Rett Syndrome” and “Eye Tracking” was used in a Medline literature search. In order to be included in thi…
AnySeq: A High Performance Sequence Alignment Library based on Partial Evaluation
2020
Sequence alignments are fundamental to bioinformatics which has resulted in a variety of optimized implementations. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are hand-tuned and specific to certain architectures and execution models. This not only makes them challenging to understand and extend, but also difficult to port to other platforms. We present AnySeq - a novel library for computing different types of pairwise alignments of DNA sequences. Our approach combines high performance with an intuitively understandable implementation, which is achieved through the concept of partial evaluation. Using the AnyDSL compiler framework, AnySeq enables the compilation of algorithmic variants that ar…
Modeling temporal treatment effects with zero inflated semi-parametric regression models: The case of local development policies in France
2017
International audience; A semi-parametric approach is proposed to estimate the variation along time of the effects of two distinct public policies that were devoted to boost rural development in France over a similar period of time. At a micro data level, it is often observed that the dependent variable, such as local employment, does not vary along time, so that we face a kind of zero inflated phenomenon that cannot be dealt with a continuous response model. We introduce a conditional mixture model which combines a mass at zero and a continuous response. The suggested zero inflated semi-parametric statistical approach relies on the flexibility and modularity of additive models with the abi…
Statistical Performance Analysis of a Fast Super-Resolution Technique Using Noisy Translations.
2014
It is well known that the registration process is a key step for super-resolution reconstruction. In this work, we propose to use a piezoelectric system that is easily adaptable on all microscopes and telescopes for controlling accurately their motion (down to nanometers) and therefore acquiring multiple images of the same scene at different controlled positions. Then a fast super-resolution algorithm \cite{eh01} can be used for efficient super-resolution reconstruction. In this case, the optimal use of $r^2$ images for a resolution enhancement factor $r$ is generally not enough to obtain satisfying results due to the random inaccuracy of the positioning system. Thus we propose to take seve…
Defining and measuring the network flexibility of humanitarian supply chains: insights from the 2015 Nepal earthquake
2019
International audience; The efficient and effective response to disasters critically depends on humanitarian supply chains (HSCs). HSCs need to be flexible to adapt to uncertainties in needs, infrastructure conditions, and behavior of other organizations. The concept of ‘network flexibility’ is, however, not clearly defined. The lack of an unanimous definition has led to a lack of consistent understanding and comparisons. This paper makes a threefold contribution: first, it defines the concept of network flexibility for HSC in the context of sudden onset disasters. Second, it proposes a framework to measure network flexibility in HSCs. Third, we apply our framework to the 2015 Nepal earthqu…
Sensitive nerve function measurement in facial trauma : an observational study
2020
Background Facial trauma is responsible for various types of health damage and may be functional or aesthetic. Depending on the degree of energy released in this type of trauma, sometimes an irreversibility degree is obtained. This study aimed to perform an objective evaluation of traumatic peripheral nerve injuries resulting from mandibular fractures and midface, using silicon monofilaments. Material and Methods This was an observational, cross-sectional study. All patients with maxillofacial fractures, who were hospitalized by the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Instituto Dr. José Frota Hospital, were randomly recruited and screened for inclusion in the present study. Sixt…
Doit-on sélectionner ou former les élites scolaires ? Une comparaison internationale des politiques éducatives
2005
This article aims to provide a starting point for reflection about the conditions required for building up an academic elite in mandatory school systems, through international quantitative evaluation. The academic elite are defined, here, not in terms of the educational level they have reached, but through the skills levels attained: the proportion of students who have reached, in each country, the highest level of skill on the main section of the PISA 2000 test. After setting out the theoretical framework, it provides analysis showing that amongst the societal factors, once a certain level of economic development has been exceeded, the size of the academic elite population is much more a fu…
What are the risk and protective factors for the well-being of adolescents with CF?
2021
Value based trading of real assets in shipping under stochastic freight rates
2009
The article uses a real options valuation model with stochastic freight rates to investigate market efficiency and the economics of switching between the dry bulk and the tanker markets in international shipping. A dry bulk carrier is replaced with a tanker when the expected net present value of such a switch is optimal from a real options based decision rule. Depending on the development of the markets a reversal may take place later. The cost and demand parameters upon which the decisions to switch are made, including the stochastic characteristics of freight rates, are estimated from an empirical analysis that is updated every week throughout a 12-year time period from 1993 to 2005. The …
Educación XX1 : revista de la Facultad de Educación
2017
