De novo 13q deletions in two patients with mild anorectal malformations as part of VATER/VACTERL and VATER/VACTERL-like association and analysis of E…

2013

Item does not contain fulltext Anorectal malformations (ARMs) comprise a broad spectrum of conditions ranging from mild anal anomalies to complex cloacal malformations. In 40-50% of cases, ARM occurs within the context of defined genetic syndromes or complex multiple congenital anomalies, such as VATER/VACTERL (vertebral defects [V], ARMs [A], cardiac defects [C], tracheoesophageal fistula with or without esophageal atresia [TE], renal malformations [R], and limb defects [L]) association. Here, we report the identification of deletions at chromosome 13q using single nucleotide polymorphism-based array analysis in two patients with mild ARM as part of VATER/VACTERL and VATER/VACTERL-like ass…

Assessment of a reconciliation and information programme for heart transplant patients

2010

Abstract Introduction The objective is to assess a pharmaceutical care programme for heart transplant patients upon patient admission and discharge. Material and methods Observational study of heart transplant patients, performed during the first quarter of 2007. Upon admission, the patient was interviewed regarding home treatments, adherence, allergies, and adverse effects, his/her prescriptions were compared with the last discharge report (drug reconciliation). At time of discharge, treatment was checked against the last hospital prescription (reconciliation) and an informative report was drawn up and personally delivered to the patient. Subsequently, a satisfaction questionnaire was carr…

A "grande política"

2015

Semiquantitative assessment of pre-core stop-codon mutant and wildtype hepatitis B virus during the course of chronic hepatitis B using a new PCR-bas…

1996

In most patients with chronic hepatitis B positive for antibodies (anti-HBe) to HBe antigen (HBeAg), a pre-core mutant hepatitis B virus (HBV) with a point-mutation at nt. 1896 can be isolated. Clinical significance of the mutant virus in chronic hepatitis B is not proven yet, and screening of large numbers of sera during different clinical courses of numerous patients is necessary. We therefore aimed to develop a fast and reliable assay, that allows to discriminate wildtype from nt. 1896 G-->A mutant HBV and to determine the ratio of mutant and wildtype HBV in patients' sera. A mutation specific polymerase chain reaction (ms PCR) with new primers served to distinguish nt. 1896 G-->A mutant…

Direct acting antivirals after successful treatment of early hepatocellular carcinoma improve survival in HCV-cirrhotic patients

2019

Background & aims: The effectiveness of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) against hepatitis C virus (HCV) after successful treatment of early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been studied extensively. However, the benefit in terms of overall survival (OS) remains to be conclusively demonstrated. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of DAAs on OS, HCC recurrence, and hepatic decompensation. Methods: We enrolled prospectively 163 consecutive patients with HCV-related cirrhosis and at first diagnosis of early Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) 0/A HCC who had achieved a complete radiologic response after curative resection or ablation, subsequently treated with DAAs. DAA-untrea…

Pelvic girdle pain affects the whole life—A qualitative interview study in Norway on women’s experiences with pelvic girdle pain after delivery

2014

Background The aim of this study was to explore how pelvic girdle pain after delivery influences women’s daily life in Norway. Knowledge about living with post-partum pelvic girdle pain is lacking. Method A phenomenological–hermeneutical design with qualitative semi-structured interviews was used. A strategic selection procedure was chosen to recruit participants from physiotherapy clinics and a regional hospital in Norway. Five women with clinically verified pelvic girdle pain after delivery were included. Data were imported into NVivo9 and analysed in three steps: naïve reading, structural analysis and comprehensive understanding of the text. Results Three themes influencing the women’s d…

A Sequential Quadratic Programming Method for Volatility Estimation in Option Pricing

2006

Our goal is to identify the volatility function in Dupire's equation from given option prices. Following an optimal control approach in a Lagrangian framework, we propose a globalized sequential quadratic programming (SQP) algorithm with a modified Hessian - to ensure that every SQP step is a descent direction - and implement a line search strategy. In each level of the SQP method a linear-quadratic optimal control problem with box constraints is solved by a primal-dual active set strategy. This guarantees L^1 constraints for the volatility, in particular assuring its positivity. The proposed algorithm is founded on a thorough first- and second-order optimality analysis. We prove the existe…

High-energy devices in different surgical settings: lessons learnt from a full health technology assessment report developed by SICE (Società Italian…

2022

Background The present paper aims at evaluating the potential benefits of high-energy devices (HEDs) in the Italian surgical practice, defining the comparative efficacy and safety profiles, as well as the potential economic and organizational advantages for hospitals and patients, with respect to standard monopolar or bipolar devices. Methods A Health Technology Assessment was conducted in 2021 assuming the hospital perspective, comparing HEDs and standard monopolar/bipolar devices, within eleven surgical settings: appendectomy, hepatic resections, colorectal resections, cholecystectomy, splenectomy, hemorrhoidectomy, thyroidectomy, esophago-gastrectomy, breast surgery, adrenalectomy, and p…
