The psychometric measures to assess aggressive dimension following traumatic brain injury: A review.
2021
Abstract Background: higher level of aggression and antisocial behavior are frequent following head trauma, due to specific brain alterations. Many tests are used to assess this aspect. A descriptive review was conducted on the main tests used to detect the appearance of aggressive dimensions following traumatic brain injury. Review summary: we searched on PubMed and Web of Science databases and screening references of included studies and review articles for additional citations. From initial 723 publications, only 7 met our search criteria. Findings showed that various psychometric tools are used to assess aggressiveness and its subdomains, following head trauma. Conclusions: further inve…
The Effectiveness of EMOVERE: An Emotional Education Program for Young Couples
2021
Our aim was to assess the effectiveness of EMOVERE, a psychoeducational and experiential program to increase emotion regulation in couples. Forty-four young couples (n = 88) aged between 18 and 36 years old participated in the study (53.4% women
Self-Perceptions of Sicilian Male Youth
1972
An Italian version of the AVA was included in the test battery for a pilot study of Project Talent in Sicily. Ss were 395 male students attending a public technical school in Palermo, Sicily. Profiles of basic self and social self-concepts, as well as the composite self-concept yielded by the AVA, were analyzed for the Sicilian sample. The latter were also compared with those for an American normative sample ( N = 7732). Two heavily concentrated clusters were noted in the self-perceptions of the Sicilians in contrast to those of the American sample which are more evenly distributed throughout the personality spheroid comprising the AVA model.
Reliability and validity of the Finnish version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS)
2017
The present study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the Finnish version of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) among foot and ankle patients. The LEFS was translated and cross-culturally adapted to Finnish. We assessed the test-retest reliability, internal consistency, floor-ceiling effect, construct validity and criterion validity in patients who underwent surgery due to musculoskeletal pathology of the foot and ankle (N = 166).The test-retest reliability was high (ICC = 0.93, 95% CI: 0.91-0.95). The standard error of measurement was 4.1 points. The Finnish LEFS showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.96). A slight ceiling effect occurred as 17% achieved the …
Evaluation of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales (AIMS2) in Finnish patients with rheumatoid arthritis
2003
Objective: To evaluate the validity and reliability of the Finnish version of the Arthritis Impact Measurement Scales (AIMS2) in Finnish patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods: The reliability of the Finnish AIMS2 (Finn‐AIMS2) questionnaire was assessed by test–retest procedure and internal consistency of health‐status scales. Construct validity was assessed by factor analysis, and convergent validity by correlation coefficients, with several disease activity and functional status variables. Results: Internal consistency was 0.79–0.89 and test–retest reliability 0.72–0.97. Factor analysis identified three factors: physical, psychosocial, and pain. There were strong correlations betw…
Cetuximab plus cisplatin–5-fluorouracil versus cisplatin–5-fluorouracil alone in first-line metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus: a ra…
2009
Abstract Background This study assessed the activity of the mAb cetuximab in combination with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Patients and methods For a maximum of six 29-day cycles, patients received cisplatin 100 mg/m2, day 1, plus 5-FU 1000 mg/m2, days 1–5 (CF), either alone or in combination with cetuximab (CET–CF; 400 mg/m2 initial dose followed by 250 mg/m2 weekly thereafter). The primary end point was tumor response. Tumor material was obtained for analysis of KRAS mutation status. Results Sixty-two eligible patients were included, 32 receiving CET–CF and 30 CF. Cetuximab did not exacerbate grade 3/4 toxicity, except for rash (6% ve…
The effect of perceived discrimination on the health of immigrant workers in Spain
2011
Background: Discrimination is an important determinant of health inequalities, and immigrants may be more vulnerable to certain types of discrimination than the native-born. This study analyses the relationship between immigrants' perceived discrimination and various self-reported health indicators. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted (2008) amongst a non-random sample of 2434 immigrants from Ecuador, Morocco, Romania and Colombia in four Spanish cities: Barcelona, Huelva, Madrid and Valencia. A factorial analysis of variables revealed three dimensions of perceived discrimination (due to immigrant status, due to physical appearance, and workplace-related). The association of the…
Quality of Life and Occupational Disability in Endocrine Orbitopathy
2009
SUMMARY Background: In endocrine orbitopathy (EO), disfiguring proptosis and diplopia impair patients' quality of life both at home and at work. Methods: From late 2006 to the beginning of 2008, 250 outpatients in an interdisciplinary thyroid and eye clinic filled out a questionnaire about their quality of life, occupational disability, and use of psychotherapy. 400 physicians who referred their EO patients to the clinic also participated in a survey on these issues. Results: 45% of the patients complained of restrictions in their daily activities, and 38% reported impaired selfperception. 36% were on sick leave because of EO. 28% were disabled, 5% had retired early, and 3% had lost their j…
Focal nodular hyperplasia: a weight-based, intraindividual comparison of gadobenate dimeglumine and gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MRI
2019
PURPOSE: We aimed to qualitatively and quantitatively compare the enhancement pattern of focal nodular hyperplasia after gadobenate dimeglumine and gadoxetate disodium injection in the same patient. METHODS: 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of 16 patients with 21 focal nodular hyperplasias studied after the injection of both contrast media were evaluated. Both MRI studies were performed in all patients. A qualitative analysis was performed evaluating each lesion in all phases. For quantitative analysis we calculated signal intensity ratio, lesion-to-liver contrast ratio and liver parenchyma signal intensity gain on hepatobiliary phase. Statistical analysis was performed w…
Congenital Müllerian anomalies: diagnostic accuracy of three-dimensional ultrasound
1996
Objective To determine whether it is possible to identify and diagnose accurately Mullerian anomalies with three-dimensional (3-D) ultrasound (US). Design Controlled blinded clinical study. Setting Normal human volunteers undergoing infertility evaluation in a university hospital. Patients Forty-two patients who underwent laparoscopy and hysterosalpingography as part of their work up for infertility and were found to have either a normal uterus (30 patients) or a Mullerian abnormality (12 patients) consented to be evaluated with 3-D US by sonographers who were unaware of their infertility history or of their laparoscopy and hysterosalpingography diagnoses. Interventions Transvaginal 3-D US …
