A Phase I Study of Cisplatinum plus 5-Fluorouracil in Modulation with Citrovorum Factor in Metastatic Colorectal Carcinoma

1991

A phase I study of 5-fluorouracil 600 mg/m2/week and folinic acid 500 mg/m2/week on day 1 and cisplatin administered weekly on day 2 was carried out on 30 patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma of which 20 patients were pretreated with 5-fluorouracil. The first group of patients received cisplatin at the dose of 5 mg/m2/week. Cisplatin was then escalated to 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 mg/m2/week for subsequent groups of patients. Gastrointestinal side-effects were the dose-limiting toxicity. A therapy related death was seen at the dose of 35 mg/m2/week of cisplatin. The maximally tolerated dose of cisplatin in combination with 5-fluorouracil and citrovorum factor is 20 mg/m2/week. The…

Development and Psychometric Properties of the Detection of Sexual Abuse Risk Screening Scale (DSARss).

2019

People with intellectual disability (ID) are more vulnerable to being victims of sexual abuse (SA) because, in most cases, they are not able to detect the warning signs that abuse could occur. However, there is a lack of appropriate assessment tools to determine their vulnerability. To address this limitation, the current study tests the psychometric properties of the Detection of Sexual Abuse Risk Screening Scale (DSARss), a new scale developed to assess the ability of individuals with mild or moderate ID to detect the risk of SA. In all, 246 individuals with mild or moderate ID (55.3% males) completed the DSARss, along with other scales assessing related dimensions (e.g., psychopathologi…

The Relevance of Dual Tasking for Improving Trunk Muscle Endurance After Back Surgery

2021

Abstract Objective To determine the effect of dual tasking on trunk muscle endurance in patients after lumbar diskectomy. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Rehabilitation hospital setting. Participants Individuals (N=14) undergoing primary lumbar diskectomy. Intervention Using a randomized design on 2 separate days, muscle endurance was evaluated during prone bridging and Biering-Sorensen tests. Each test was randomly performed under 2 cognitive conditions: single task without cognitive condition and self-regulated dual task (ie, mathematical task). Main Outcome Measures The primary outcomes were time to failure and pain assessed by the visual analog scale from 0 to 100 mm. The secondar…

The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory: Psychometric Properties in a Spanish Sample

2007

This study is a validation of the Spanish version of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory using a nonclinical sample (198 participants) and a clinical sample (72 participants with social phobia). The factor structure and concurrent validity with Fear of Negative Evaluation and Social Avoidance and Distress scales were analyzed. The Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory demonstrated good concurrent validity, showing statistically significant relationships with Fear of Negative Evaluation and Social Avoidance and Distress. Results confirmed the rationale for the division of the SPAI into two subscales. Results also demonstrated the utility of the Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory for diff…

Adjustment disorder as proposed for ICD-11: Dimensionality and symptom differentiation

2014

Although Adjustment Disorder as a diagnostic category is widely used in clinical practice it is critically discussed that it has not been conceptualized as a category with unique symptoms. Hence, the conceptualization of Adjustment Disorder is subject to substantive change in ICD-11 including core symptoms and additional features in a uni-faceted concept. Adjustment Disorder was assessed with a self-rating instrument in a representative sample of the German general population (N=2512). Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were applied to test the dimensionality of symptoms according to the new diagnostic concept. Latent class analysis (LCA) was applied to test whether there are distinguishabl…

A clinical evaluation of the DSM-5 criteria for Internet Gaming Disorder and a pilot study on their applicability to further Internet-related disorde…

2019

Background and aims Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and other Internet-related disorders (IRDs) have become growing health concerns in our today’s lives. Based on defined diagnostic criteria, IGD has been recognized as a condition for further research in the DSM-5; however, other IRDs have been excluded. Since the release of the DSM-5, representativeness and appropriateness of the nine diagnostic criteria have been debated. Although some first evidence has been published to evaluate these criteria, our knowledge is still limited. Thus, the purpose of this study was to provide data on the clinical validity of the DSM-5 criteria for IGD and other types of IRD. We were also interested in exami…

Prevalence of alexithymia in eating disorders in a clinical sample of 800 Mexican patients.

2019

The inability to identify, express feelings, and not distinguish between emotions and bodily sensations, is known as alexithymia. In 1988, it developed The Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), consists of 20 items and three factors: a) difficulty of identifying feelings and differences between feelings and bodily sensations; b) difficulty of describing feelings; and c) externally oriented thinking. It's considered that people with eating disorders have specific deficits in identify and communicate their feelings. The present study has as purpose to the instrument validation. It was a cross-sectional study and psychometric character design of a single sample, formed of 435 persons suffering eat…

Design and validation of a brief scale for cognitive evaluation in people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia (BCog‐S)

2019

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Schizophrenia is often related to cognitive deficits. Mental health nurses are involved in health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation in schizophrenia. However, the nursing literature addressing cognitive rehabilitation from schizophrenia is very limited. Cognition and its domains (communication, information processing, attentiveness, concentration, orientation, memory and calculation skills) are established by the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC), but they are difficult to measure. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: We present a new standardized cognitive assessment to be administered by nurses to people diagnosed with schizophre…

Propiedades psicométricas de la Escala de Quejas Somáticas en niños y adultos españoles

2015

The aim of this study was to analyse the psychometric properties of the Somatic Complaints List (SCL) in Spanish child and adult populations. This instrument assesses the frequency with which people experience and feel pain such as stomach ache and headache, among others. It has been validated in different countries and languages (Dutch, English, and Persian), showing adequate psychometric properties. Nevertheless, it has never been validated in a Spanish context. Method: For the adaptation and validation, we used two different samples: 1423 children, age ranging from 8 to 12 years old, selected from 12 primary and secondary schools at 7 locations in the Valencian Community, Spain (age = 9.…

To do or not to do? plasma exchange and timing of steroid administration in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy

2016

OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively analyze the effect of plasma exchange (PLEX; yes = PLEX+ , no = PLEX- ) and steroids administration timing (prophylactically [proST] or therapeutically [therST]) on the longitudinal clinical course of patients with natalizumab-related progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) and full-blown immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (PML-IRIS). METHODS: Clinical and radiological data of 42 Italian patients with PML were analyzed. Patient's data are available until 12 months after PML diagnosis. PLEX and steroids treatment as time-dependent covariates were entered in: (1) a Cox model to investigate their impact on full-blown PML-IRIS latency; (2) an anal…
