Acute human pyelonephritis: Leukocytic infiltration of tubules and localization of bacteria
1988
The fine structural details of how leukocytes appear in the lumen of tubules and the localization of bacteria in the tubulo-interstitial space were studied by light and electronmicroscopy in renal cortical biopsy specimens from three patients with acute pyelonephritis. The cells of interstitial infiltrates infiltrated and sometimes disrupted the cortical collecting tubules preferentially, while inflammatory infiltration of the proximal and distal convoluted tubules occurred more rarely. Since the emigration of tubular wall-localized individual leukocytes into the lumen was not observed even in long series of thin sections, focal inflammatory disruption of the uriniferous ducts was considere…
L’animale insaturo: antropologia filosofica e retorica
2013
In the macro-area of philosophical anthropology and philosophy of language we can find an important relationship between philosophical anthropology and rhetoric. Starting from the analysis of Blumenberg’s essay An Anthropological Approach to the Contemporary Significance of Rhetoric, the paper will focus on the relation between rhetoric and evidence, on the status of shared assumptions that form the basis of argumentation and on the role of pistis in human nature. I will also try to propose a new concept of poor humanity: man is that animal whose poverty is tied to the biological need to believe in the inherited background that we have because we belong to a community which is bound togethe…
Marc Chagall y los primitivos italianos
2011

New 3-zone hybrid graft : First-in-man experience in acute type I dissection
2019
Abstract Objective Acute type I aortic dissection (AAD) represents a surgical emergency with time-dependent evolving complications. Frozen elephant trunk (FET) enables false lumen exclusion downstream but is still debated in AAD due to its greater dimension of surgery. To combine the benefits of fast proximal repair with the FET benefits, a 3-zone hybrid graft was developed consisting of an ascending polyester portion, an arch noncovered stent, and a descending stent graft. Mid-term results of this new technique are presented. Methods A total of 6 patients (age mean 69 years) with type I AAD in critical status (Penn classification B n = 5, BC n = 1) were operated between July 2016 and April…
How to do it: direct true lumen cannulation technique of the ascending aorta in acute aortic dissection type A†
2012
In acute aortic dissection type A (AADA), direct true lumen cannulation (DTLC) of the ascending aorta is a fast and safe cannulation site providing antegrade perfusion of the supraaortic and visceral vessels. An Overholt clamp is passed around the ascending aorta to place a Mersilene tape for later securing of the arterial cannula. After draining venous blood into the cardiopulmonary bypass system (CPB), the ascending aorta is transected and the aortic lumen inspected. The true lumen is identified and an arterial cannula inserted directly. Finally, the cannula is secured with the previously placed tape and CPB is initiated. DTLC can be used as arterial cannulation standard technique in oper…
True-lumen collapse of the ascending aorta in acute type A aortic dissection

Reevaluation of direct true lumen cannulation in surgery for acute type A aortic dissection.
2009
Background The optimal mode of arterial cannulation in acute type A aortic dissection is controversial. We retrospectively investigated our experience with direct true lumen cannulation as an alternative to standard cannulation procedures. Methods From April 2004 to August 2007, 29 patients (20 men, 9 women; mean age of 63.2 ± 12.6 years) underwent emergency operation for acute type A aortic dissection with direct true lumen cannulation. After venous drainage into the venous reservoir, the ascending aorta was completely transected in the region between the sinotubular junction and innominate artery. After visual and digital identification of the true lumen, the arterial cannula was directly…

Aortic remodelling after thoracic endovascular aortic repair in acute and chronic type B aortic dissections
2019
AbstractOBJECTIVESType B aortic dissections are routinely treated with thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). The timing for TEVAR remains controversial and might have an impact on the remodelling capacity of the aorta. This study analyses and compares aortic remodelling in acute (ABD) and chronic (CBD) type B aortic dissections after TEVAR.METHODSThis retrospective study analysed the preoperative, postoperative and at least 1-year follow-up computed tomography of 53 TEVAR patients (36 ABD, 17 CBD) at a single institution between May 2005 and May 2016. The volumes of aortic lumen (AL), true lumen, false lumen (FL) and perfused FL were measured at the stent graft level (A), from the st…
