Hyperventilation in Adult TBI Patients: How to Approach It?
2021
Hyperventilation is a commonly used therapy to treat intracranial hypertension (ICTH) in traumatic brain injury patients (TBI). Hyperventilation promotes hypocapnia, which causes vasoconstriction in the cerebral arterioles and thus reduces cerebral blood flow and, to a lesser extent, cerebral blood volume effectively, decreasing temporarily intracranial pressure. However, hyperventilation can have serious systemic and cerebral deleterious effects, such as ventilator-induced lung injury or cerebral ischemia. The routine use of this therapy is therefore not recommended. Conversely, in specific conditions, such as refractory ICHT and imminent brain herniation, it can be an effective life-savin…
Los caminos de la gobernanza, Expo Zaragoza 2008 España
2005
Damping excessive inflammation and tissue damage in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection by Toll IL-1 receptor 8/single Ig IL-1-related receptor, a n…
2007
Abstract Toll IL-1R 8/single Ig IL-1-related receptor (TIR8/SIGIRR) is a member of the IL-1R family, expressed by epithelial tissues and immature dendritic cells, and is regarded as a negative regulator of TLR/IL-1R signaling. Tir8-deficient mice were rapidly killed by intranasal administration of low doses of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, despite controlling efficiently the number of viable bacilli in different organs. Tir8−/−-infected mice showed an increased number of neutrophils and macrophages in the lungs; however, mycobacteria-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells were similar in Tir8−/− and Tir8+/+ mice. Exaggerated mortality of Tir8−/− mice was due to massive liver necrosis and was accompanie…
Classification of hospital pathways in the management of cancer: application to lung cancer in the region of burgundy.
2013
Abstract Context : The evaluation of national cancer plans is an important aspect of their implementation. For this evaluation, the principal actors in the field (doctors, nurses, etc.) as well as decision-makers must have access to information that is reliable, synthetic and easy to interpret, and which reflects the implementation process in the field. We propose here a methodology to make this type of information available in the context of reducing inequalities with regard to access to healthcare for patients with lung cancer in the region of Burgundy. Methods : We used the national medico-administrative DRG-type database, which gathers together all hospital stays. By using this database…

DEDUZIONE DEL FATTORE L DELLA USLE-MM NELLE PARCELLE SPERIMENTALI DI SPARACIA, IN SICILIA
2010
Endothelin-1-Mediated Drug Resistance in EGFR-Mutant Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma.
2020
Abstract Progression on therapy in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is often evaluated radiographically, however, image-based evaluation of said therapies may not distinguish disease progression due to intrinsic tumor drug resistance or inefficient tumor penetration of the drugs. Here we report that the inhibition of mutated EGFR promotes the secretion of a potent vasoconstrictor, endothelin-1 (EDN1), which continues to increase as the cells become resistant with a mesenchymal phenotype. As EDN1 and its receptor (EDNR) is linked to cancer progression, EDNR-antagonists have been evaluated in several clinical trials with disappointing results. These trials were based on a hypothesis that…

Ventilation, oxidative stress and risk of brain injury in preterm newborn
2020
AbstractPreterm infants have an increased risk of cognitive and behavioral deficits and cerebral palsy compared to term born babies. Especially before 32 weeks of gestation, infants may require respiratory support, but at the same time, ventilation is known to induce oxidative stress, increasing the risk of brain injury. Ventilation may cause brain damage through two pathways: localized cerebral inflammatory response and hemodynamic instability. During ventilation, the most important causes of pro-inflammatory cytokine release are oxygen toxicity, barotrauma and volutrauma. The purpose of this review was to analyze the mechanism of ventilation-induced lung injury (VILI) and the relationship…
