Neuromuscular adaptations and serum hormones in females during prolonged power training.

Training-induced adaptations in the neuromuscular and endocrine systems were investigated in seven females during prolonged power type strength training. Great (p less than 0.05) changes occurred primarily during the earlier weeks of the 16-week training especially in the time of force production (from 161 +/- 107 to 93 +/- 65 ms to produce a 500 N force) and, correspondingly, in the average forces in the earlier positions of the (absolute) force-time curve of the leg extensor muscles. Urinary luteinizing hormone (LH) testing has been proposed as a reliable method for the prediction of ovulation but its accuracy has been challenged by some studies. To check how accurately the oscillations of urinary LH reflected the plasma changes, surges of LH of different magnitude and duration were artificially induced in plasma and the hormone was measured simultaneously in urine. Neuromuscular and hormonal responses in elite athletes to two successive strength training sessions in one day

Acute neuromuscular and endocrine adaptations to weight-lifting were investigated during two successive high intensity training sessions in the same day. For some time, it has been assumed that women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are at increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD). This has largely been on the basis of having many risk factors, including abnormal lipid profile, insulin resistance, and markers of inflammation. Abstract This study examined the effect of the ovary on LH pulsatility and on the secretory performance of gonadotrophes during the phase of recovery after treatment with buserelin, a GnRH analogue. We included 12 patients, who received buserelin (1.2 mg/day, intranasally for 3 months) as a reductive therapy for uterine leiomyomatosis prior to hysterectomy.
