Intercomparison and quality assessment of MERIS, MODIS and SEVIRI FAPAR products over the Iberian Peninsula
2013
Abstract The fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (FAPAR) is a key variable in productivity and carbon cycle models. The variety of available FAPAR satellite products from different space agencies leads to the necessity of assessing the existing differences between them before using into models. Discrepancies of four FAPAR products derived from MODIS, SEVIRI and MERIS (TOAVEG and MGVI algorithms), covering the Iberian Peninsula from July 2006 to June 2007 are here analyzed. The assessment is based on an intercomparison involving the spatial and temporal consistency between products and a statistical analysis across land cover types. In general, significant differences ar…
Effect of The Gluten-Free Diet on Quality of Life, Gastrointestinal Symptoms and Immune System in Patients with Fibromyalgia and Non-Celiac Wheat Sen…
2021
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a clinical syndrome characterized by chronic pain. FM patients complain hyperalgesia and allodynia and they are frequently affected by Non Celiac Wheat Sensitivity (NCWS), a condition where gastrointestinal and extraintestinal symptoms are triggered by gluten and/or wheat ingestion. The gluten-free diet (GFD) impact was evaluated on fibromyalgia-related and gastrointestinal symptoms, health-related quality of life and immune response of patients with both FM and NCWS in order to detect a possible pathogenetic role of wheat/gluten in the triggering of the inflammatory process. Peripheral blood from 8 FM patients, 10 FM and NCWS patients (FM+NCWS patients), 13 NCWS patien…
Co-factors, Microbes, and Immunogenetics in Celiac Disease to Guide Novel Approaches for Diagnosis and Treatment.
2021
Celiac disease (CeD) is a frequent immune-mediated disease that affects not only the small intestine but also many extraintestinal sites. The role of gluten proteins as dietary triggers, HLA-DQ2 or -DQ8 as major necessary genetic predisposition, and tissue transglutaminase (TG2) as mechanistically involved autoantigen, are unique features of CeD. Recent research implicates many cofactors working in synergism with these key triggers, including the intestinal microbiota and their metabolites, nongluten dietary triggers, intestinal barrier defects, novel immune cell phenotypes, and mediators and cytokines. In addition, apart from HLA-DQ2 and -DQ8, multiple and complex predisposing genetic fact…
Intestinal Microbiota and Celiac Disease: Cause, Consequence or Co-Evolution?
2015
It is widely recognized that the intestinal microbiota plays a role in the initiation and perpetuation of intestinal inflammation in numerous chronic conditions. Most studies report intestinal dysbiosis in celiac disease (CD) patients, untreated and treated with a gluten-free diet (GFD), compared to healthy controls. CD patients with gastrointestinal symptoms are also known to have a different microbiota compared to patients with dermatitis herpetiformis and controls, suggesting that the microbiota is involved in disease manifestation. Furthermore, a dysbiotic microbiota seems to be associated with persistent gastrointestinal symptoms in treated CD patients, suggesting its pathogenic implic…
Syntheses of (+)-alismoxide and (+)-4-epi-alismoxide.
2006
The first total syntheses of (+)-alismoxide and (+)-4-epi-alismoxide are reported. Formal chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective addition of water to 10alpha-acetoxy-1alphaH,5betaH-guaia-3,6-diene afforded the target compounds after reduction. The absolute stereochemistry of (+)-alismoxide has been established. The low [alpha](D) +8.6 value indicates that significant amounts of alismoxide result from biosynthetic processes. Furthermore, the structure of the natural guaienediol isolated from Silphium perfoliatum has been corrected to (-)-alismoxide.
Posters Early pregnancy P01First trimester normograms for a wide variety of ultrasound, hemodynamic and serum parameters
2000
Background The aim of the study was to assess prospectively the evolution of multiple clinical parameters throughout the first trimester of pregnancy. Method A transvaginal ultrasound examination and a blood test was weekly performed until the 13th gestational week in a group of healthy volunteers. A total of 25 spontaneously conceived singleton pregnant women with good pregnancy outcome finally completed the study. The evolution of 10 transvaginal ultrasound parameters, 5 Doppler measurements and 6 serum parameters was studied. Results An increasing trend with advancing gestation was evident for the mean gestational sac (MSD) and amniotic sac (AS) diameters, trophoblastic rim, CRL and seru…
Biometric variability of Hadwenius tursionis (Marchi, 1873) (Digenea, Campulidae) from the intestine of the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops truncatus (Mo…
1995
The species discrimination in the family Campulidae is largely based on morphometric characters (absolute measurements and ratios). To assess the variability of this characters we have studied the campulid species Hadwenius tursionis from four Mediterranean bottlenose dolphins Tursiops truncatus from the Western Mediterranean. In H. tursionis most absolute measurements differed significantly across the infrapopulations, showing high coefficients of variation. Only egg dimensions appeared to be fairly conservative. Body ratios were less variable than absolute measurements, but growth patterns did vary significantly between the infrapopulations studied. None of the ratios previously used in r…
Crystallography of encapsulated molecules.
2017
The crystallography of supramolecular host–guest complexes is reviewed and discussed as a part of small molecule crystallography. In these complexes, the host binds the guests through weak supramolecular interactions, such as hydrogen and halogen bonding, cation–π, anion–π, C–H–π, π–π, C–H–anion interactions and the hydrophobic effect. As the guest often shows severe disorder, large thermal motion and low occupancies, the reliable crystallographic determination of the guest can be very demanding. The analysis of host–guest interactions using tools such as Hirshfeld and cavity volume surface analysis will help to look closely at the most important host–guest interactions. The jewel in the cr…
Norm estimates for operators from Hp to ℓq
AbstractWe give upper and lower estimates of the norm of a bounded linear operator from the Hardy space Hp to ℓq in terms of the norm of the rows and the columns of its associated matrix in certain vector-valued sequence spaces.
COMMENTI Standard per l’educazione alla sessualità in Europa: mirare all’empowerment o normalizzare le differenze?
2013
Commento al documento programmatico a carattere operativo pubblicato nell’autunno del 2010 dal Federal Centre for Health Education (BzGa) di Colonia e dall’Ufficio regionale per l’Europa del WHO. «Standards for Sexuality Education in Europe – a framework for policy makers, educational and health authorities and specialists» (WHO Regional Office for Europe, 2010) vede la luce a seguito del coinvolgimento di 19 esperti provenienti da nove nazioni europee, dalla formazione culturale più variegata (sono rappresentate la medicina, la psicologia e le scienze sociali) con esperienze nel settore dell’educazione alla sessualità (sia in termini teorici che di politiche e servizi di intervento), da pr…
