Angiopoietin-2 plasma dosage predicts time to first treatment and overall survival in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

2010

Abstract The clinical relevance of angiopoietin-2 (Ang2) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was previously suggested by the association between high Ang2, and shorter progression-free survival reported in small series of patients. Here, we evaluated Ang2 glycoprotein levels in plasma samples collected from a multicentric cohort of CLL patients (n = 316) using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method, and we investigated its prognostic role in relation to time to first treatment (TTFT) and overall survival. Based on a cutoff equal to 2459 pg/mL, we divided our cohort in 2 subsets (high and low Ang2) composing 100 (31.6%) and 216 (68.4%) patients, respectively. High Ang2 was predictive …

Supplementary Material for: Checkpoint Inhibition in Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

2017

As patients continue to die from malignant lymphoma, novel treatment options continue to be warranted. To successfully grow and spread, tumor cells need to escape the immune system; therefore, the augmentation or restoration of immune effectors against the malignant cell could be of great value, as shown, e.g., for allogeneic transplantation. A deepened understanding of the regulation of activation and inhibition of the T cell-based effector mechanisms has led to the development of drugs that are able to modify specific checkpoints of this system and thereby raise an immune response against tumor cells. With dramatic responses observed in Hodgkin’s disease (HD), interest has risen to explor…

Sporadic oral angiomyolipoma: Case report

2007

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare, benign tumour composed of a variable proportion of lipocytes, smooth muscle and thick-walled blood vessels. AML is part of a family of tumours arising from perivascular epithelioid cells (PEComas), and many cases are associated with tuberous sclerosis, with the kidney being the most frequent site involved. We report a case of sporadic AML in the hard palate of a 52-year-old male, an extremely unusual location for this tumour. Differentiation from other benign and malignant oral mesenchymal lesions depends on recognition of the three histologic components, and immunohistochemical techniques may be helpful. AML occurring in the head and neck do not express HMB-…

Aspectos Ortopédicos en la Hemofilia

1989

The haemophilias are due to a functional coagulopathy ( either factor VIII, IX or factor VIII-platelet defiency ). Because to musculoskeletal a cu te haemorrhages, young and elderly patients develop structural deformities. Between 1981-1986, 194 patients ( 499 admission) werw admitted to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. In this paper the authors present the treatment carried out in these patients.

Cholesterol granuloma in the wall of a mandibular dentigerous cyst: a rare case report

2010

Cholesterol granuloma is an inflammatory reaction to cholesterol crystals deposition. It may develop in a variety of sites including the middle ear, mastoid process or even paranasal sinuses. Very few cases of cholesterol granuloma occurring in the jaws were reported. This report presents a rare case of cholesterol granuloma that developed in the wall of a large mandibular dentigerous cyst. The condition was treated with hemimandibulectomy followed by reconstruction with a free fibular flap.
