The ISTH bleeding assessment tool as predictor of bleeding events in inherited platelet disorders: Communication from the ISTH SSC Subcommittee on Pl…

2021

Background: The ISTH Bleeding Assessment Tool (ISTH-BAT) has been validated for clinical screening of suspected von Willebrand disease (VWD) and for bleeding prediction. Recently it has been validated for subjects with inherited platelet disorders (IPD) (BAT-VAL study). Objectives: To determine whether the ISTH-BAT bleeding score (BS) predicts subsequent bleeding events requiring treatment in IPD patients. Methods: Patients with IPD, type 1 VWD (VWD-1) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls enrolled in the BAT-VAL study were prospectively followed-up for 2 years and bleeding episodes requiring treatment were recorded. Results: Of the 1098 subjects initially enrolled, 955 were followed-up…

The non-appearance of female-specific proteins in male Spilostethus pandurus)

1990

1. 1. Female-specific peptides can be detected by SDS-PAGE in the haemolymph when the female insects are 48 hr old. 2. 2. The age of the male insect at the moment of treatment with juvenile hormone I (JH I), JH III or ecdysone has no influence on the induction of the female-specific bands in male S. pandurus. 3. 3. Male insects exposed to the hormones for periods of time longer than 24 hr were also unable to show female-specific bands in their haemolymph. Consecutive treatments with JH were unable to induce these peptides in the males.

PROMOTION OF INTRATHYMIC T-CELL DEVELOPMENT BY MHC-Ia-POSITIVE THYMIC MACROPHAGES (Ia + Mø)

1985

The generation of the peripheral T-cell pool is attributed to maturation and differentiation events occurring within the thymus. Three thymic compartments, thymic epithelial cells, thymic hormons and thymic Mo are considered to contribute to the intrathymic T-cell development. While, as we have shown earlier, murine as well as human MHC-Ia-negative-Mo (Ia−Mo) regulate thymocyte (TH) differentiation via suppressive effects (Thymus,6:295,1984) and MHC-Ia+-Mo are involved in intrathymic tolerance induction (Pediatr Res,15:800, 1984), now the contribution of Ia+Mo to intrathymic lymphopoiesis was investigated. An isolation method yielding cell suspensions highly enriched for Ia+ thymic Mo was p…

Testicular cancer and viral infections: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis

2013

In 1984, Newell and coworkers were the first to suggest that testicular cancer might have a viral etiology since it showed similar characteristics to Hodgkin's lymphoma. A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was conducted to investigate a possible association between viral infections (EBV, CMV, Parvovirus B19, HPV, and HIV) and testicular cancer. Articles published from 1985 through June 2010 were located from MEDLINE and EMBASE databases, 21 articles were finally included in the review. For infection with EBV, CMV, Parvovirus B19, and HIV the pooled OR were 4.80 (95% CI 0.98–23.54), 1.85 (95% CI 0.92–3.70), 2.86 (95% CI 0.35–23.17), and 1.79 (95% CI 1.45–2.21) respectively. No p…

Patterns of changes of anti‐ADAMTS13 after plasma exchange

2006

An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has recently been developed to detect antibodies against the von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease ADAMTS13 in patients with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). The ELISA is based on incubation of plasma with immobilized recombinant ADAMTS13 followed by visualization of IgG and IgM antibodies by means of secondary enzyme-labeled antibodies [1]. In a recent study, anti-ADAMTS13 IgG antibodies were detected in most patients with TTP (97%) characterized by severe ADAMTS13 deficiency (< 10% of normal) [1]. The ELISA was more sensitive than the standard inhibitor assay based upon ADAMTS13 neutralizing activity, which gave positive results in …

Transfusion-related acute lung injury after intravenous immunoglobulin treatment in a lung transplant recipient

2012

Three weeks after single-lung transplantation for pulmonary fibrosis, a patient with high serum levels of de novo donor-specific antibodies received high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion (scheduled dose: 2 g/kg on 2 days) to prevent antibody-mediated rejection. Within the first hours after completion of infusions, he experienced acute lung injury involving the transplanted lung. Given the clinical evolution and the absence of an alternative diagnosis, transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) was diagnosed. The IVIG administered on each day was from the same batch. At day 110, because of an increase in the serum titers of donor-specific antibodies, IVIG therapy was reintr…

Considerazioni su un caso di actinomicosi cervicale

2005

Actinomycosis is a bacterial infection due to Gram positive bacteria of Actinomyces genus. Actinomyces israelii is the most common in human infection. The authors described a case occurred in a 43 aged woman with a clinical presentation of a right submandibular indurative mass. After surgery, histological examination showed a granulomatous tissue with many actinomycetes. Patient was submitted to treatment with i.v penicillin. On the 11th day antibiotic therapy was replaced with ceftriaxone and teicoplanina. Patient did not present intercurrence during this period and presented improvement of the lesion.Actinomycosis is an uncommon disease. Establishment of the definite diagnosis requires a hi…

Evaluation of Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Temsirolimus in Patients with Relapsed or Refractory Mantle Cell Lymphoma (Rel/Refr Mcl) in Routin…

2014

ABSTRACT Aim: Temsirolimus (TEMS), an mTOR-inhibitor, is approved in the EU for the treatment of patients (pts) with relapsed or refractory (rel/refr) MCL. A pivotal study demonstrated significantly longer progression free survival with TEMS (175 mg weekly for 3 weeks followed by 75 mg weekly) in rel/refr MCL pts compared to investigatoŕs choice therapy (4.8 mo vs 1.9 mo; P = .0009). To evaluate safety and efficacy of TEMS in an unselected patient population during clinical routine, a prospective non-interventional study with TEMS in rel/refr MCL pts is useful. Here we report on interim results of the study. Methods: A German multicenter registry for rel/refr MCL pts treated with TEMS was s…

Outcomes of Mismatched Related Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: A Retrospective Study on Behalf of the Chronic …

2016

Abstract Introduction: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) is a treatment for CLL that can give long disease control. Even with the availability of kinase and BCL2 inhibitors, HCT is still performed in fit patients (pts) with high-risk CLL. Almost exclusively, outcomes on matched related and unrelated donor transplantations in CLL have been published. Recently, mismatched related donors are gaining interest because of the better outcome of haploidentical HCT with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCY). Methods: All pts with CLL who received a first allogeneic HCT with a mismatched related donor and whose data were available in the EBMT registry were analyzed. Medi…
